Another funding question - from 9 months

We've visited a nursery today in advance of the funded hours starting in September when DC will be one, they've explained that there will be a 'parent contribution' to cover everything that the government funding doesn't, which I understand and is no isssue. They couldn't tell us how much because they haven't had the information on what they will recieve yet but we are a bit apprehensive to register and pay a deposit without actually knowing how much we will be paying.
Has anyone had an estimate from their nurseries? Or anyone using the funding for 2 year olds how much they top up?

Every nursery will be different. Ours charge £2 per funded hour used but let us claim all the funded hours. Some nurseries don't let you claim all the funded hours unless you are full time by limiting the number of funded hours that can be claimed each day.

Have they definitely got space for this september coming?! As that is very unusual, most nurseries have a 12 month waiting list

BusyCM · 20/04/2024 13:35

Unusual they said this because I'm a cm and we had all our funding rates confirmed end of February. Maybe they mean internally? Perhaps head office/management haven't done the calculations to decide the pricing structure yet?

If it helps, I won't be charging additional fees but I am accepting whole days only, not any part time hours as they are harder to fill around.

It may be that, its part of a chain so perhaps waiting for it to be communicated.
There's definitely spaces, although none of the nurseries in my area have waiting lists, we must be lucky

Well we literally get 15 hours funded in the term time weeks

Itsanorainday · 21/04/2024 19:47

They should be able to give an indication even if you was to say if I entitled from April for 3 days a week as of today what would I be paying.

summer term is the longest to autumn term so if you have already been given a code you will need to reconfirm eligibility again before the term begins so where I work the offer letter/contract will be based on no funding and then once it is closer to the term and I can still see that you are eligible for funding for the term you would then receive another letter to confirm fees taking into account funding

Rabbitsarebraver · 21/04/2024 20:32

I pay £26 a day top up. Not ideal but better than the £92 a day it was before we got a day funded

Nurseries dont currently know what the funding will be for babies. We will probably be told a week before it goes live 😒. It also varies from area to area and then the LA take some. It's impossible to know yet to estimate how much parents may need to contribute. It's as frustrating for us as it is for parents as we then have a mad rush to get all the prices sorted.

RoofHelp · 23/04/2024 06:59

Our LA gave providers their funding rate for under 2s before April, along with the new rates for 2 and 3&4 year olds.

In my area We were told all rates in March they won't change until at least April 25.

Even for the 9mth olds? Our area definitely hasn’t yet which is a real pain.

FraterculaArctica · 24/04/2024 08:50

It can be a lot. When my then 3 year old had 30 hours funding last year, the cost of his full time place was still about £1000 a month. Without the funding it would have been c. £1500.

Really? I'm on a few large Facebook groups of providers and I haven't seen anyone say that they don't know their rate?

What type of setting are you?

Yes, definitely.
Central government gave all rates to LAs before the start of this financial year so it's poor of LAs if they haven't given the rates for all ages for the year.

We used to pay around £630 for 2 full days a week; and now pay £368 for the same.

We spread our hours, so he gets about 11 hours a week funded.
