Is it common for nurseries to refuse to give free hours to term time only?

My child goes to nursery only in term time, but the nursery (which is attached to a school) says that the 15 free hours only applies 11 hours a week over 51 weeks. So it's either change to 52 weeks a year or get no free hours.

Is that normal?

The nursery can choose to deliver the funded hours either term time only, stretched over the year only, or give parents choice of model.

They can choose how they deliver their hours. Many are getting more restrictive with the hours in order to make them work both financially and due to staffing levels needed.

Yes my nursery does this. A lot of nurseries are closing as they are on such tight margins. It needs to work for everyone

Our nursery has stopped offering term time only contracts now funded hours for 1&2 Yr olds has come in.

I’ve spoken to three nurseries this week and none of them are offering ANY funded places at all citing they simply can’t afford it
