DC kept wet all day

Hi all,

This morning as I was dropping my DS (2) off at nursery the room leader informed me that they were all spending the morning outside ( in pouring rain) and to put DS wellies on.

I was a bit surprised as it was raining heavily and most kids outside didn't even have a hood up.

I asked if it's possible that once back inside to change his trousers as most likely he'll get wet.. she replied with "yes yes of course we will"

Just picked him up early .. and guess what he's in the same trousers they are wet - his tshirt is wet and hair still damp. His lips were blue and he felt so cold to touch not to mention there were so many little girls that do a full day with wet hair 😩

How would you approach this? Would you say something? Or just let it go?

I do understand there are many kids and they can't possibly make sure they all have hoods on at all times but why take them outside in pouring rain in the first place ?

I am so upset at the thought he's been wet and cold for hours since 8 am

Keeping hoods up constantly on a roomful of children isn’t as easy as you think! Children will be outside everyday and parents are responsible for providing suitable clothes for the weather.

If you arrived early for pick up did you get there before they ended their activity and got everyone changed? Or were they inside? It does take time getting a roomful dry and in fresh clothes they just may not of got to your child. The vast majority of children love playing in the rain.

Who's responsible for providing the outdoor kit? If he's wearing proper waterproofs, his clothes shouldn't get that wet. It sounds like he needs something a bit more waterproof (a lot of the cheaper stuff is only 'showerproof', although Lidl's are actually waterproof).

If they’re spending time out in wet weather they need to ensure everyone has proper waterproofs either by requesting from home or supplying themselves. But of course they need to be changed into dry clothes if they still somehow manage to get wet. DS’s class went to the park today, not raining here but was yesterday so it’s muddy and he got wet jumping in puddles so they changed his trousers and socks even though they only got back 30 minutes before pick up. What you’re describing is absolutely unacceptable and I would complain.

This would upset me. Especially as you anticipated it and it still happened.
