Safeguarding issue

Hi, just looking for a more informed opinion than I have please!

I'm going to keep it brief as to not be too specific 😂

Essentially, my daughter (2) started pre school recently. Once a week she goes to breakfast club also which has different staff to her pre school staff as it's attached to a primary school.

There has been a safeguarding issue which I have raised which involves my daughter. Again won't go into details but involves my daughter and a staff member and a mobile phone.

I've reported this to the school who have been very responsive. Apparently there has been a meeting with safeguarding and the head etc, and I was told I'd be called and informed when they have decided what's going to happen.

I had a call and they've said they have "acted accordingly" but can't tell me what the outcome is due to GDPR. I'm all for people's privacy however as this directly affects my daughter I'm surprised I'm not allowed to know the outcome.

Is this correct? I've removed her from the setting and she's elsewhere now so I'm not concerned about her going forward I was just a bit surprised to not know the outcome, because I don't know whether I would agree with the outcome as I don't know what that is!

Also happy to be told that this is normal and I just don't get to know, I've never been through this before or had anything to do with safeguarding etc so don't know the rules.

Thanks in advance.

I’m sorry you’ve had to report an issue and move your dd but it’s definitely for the best.
In regards to safeguarding it sadly is a needs to know basis so I fully understand you want to know the outcome (I would too) but if it is personal reasons the the safe guarding team can keep it private and just tell you it’s been dealt with.

Hi, thank you for that, I wasn't sure whether they just didn't want to tell me the outcome, or if it really was to do with GDPR. I'd obviously like to know the outcome as I feel I can't agree it's been dealt with properly if I don't know the outcome however as I said I have moved her so it's not a constant worry I will have taking her there now.

You could always phone or email them and ask to discuss further and see what they say. There’s no harm in double checking the info they’ve given you but I suspect they might not explain anymore than they need to.

Fully understand your concerns and agree you’ve done the right thing in moving her! Hope she’s settled at the new preschool!

If they refuse to tell you then I would act as though it's not been dealt with and contact OFSTED/whoever the appropriate authority is
