Reason enough to move?

My DD started nursery just before turning 1 and she’s now been there 6 weeks. We put her name down when she was around 2 months old - the nursery had a different manager then who was incredibly warm and friendly.

Since starting the nursery I have been unhappy with several things but don’t know if it’s reason enough to move her.

issues:

  • When I went to pick DD up after a settling in session the manager took me to a different room looking for the wrong child (despite me giving her full name). No apology when I pointed out the error, she just walked off.
  • DD has a keyworker and another member of staff who are sat on the floor when I drop her off. They do not make any attempt to greet either of us. DD cries every morning and I have to walk out with her crawling after me. Again, the staff don’t call her by name or offer any reassurance to me.
  • I was visibly crying one morning after drop off and the manager simply opened the door for me making no comment. A simple ‘are you ok?’ might have been nice.
  • Both my husband and I have found the front door unlocked on occasion and we’ve let ourselves in to collect our child. The nursery is above some cafe/retail outlets and opposite a hotel and office block.
  • DD is a great eater at home but most days she does not eat at nursery. They do not seem to be looking at ways to encourage this, just telling us she still settling in.

We’ve been to see another nursery which we liked. They were way more friendly, come recommended and are cheaper. The only issue is because they are so popular they have a waiting list and can’t take her until the end of the summer.

What would you do?

This sounds like a rubbish nursery. Just move

I'd agree, that's more than enough to move. The unlocked door is a huge safety concern, and greeting DD and attempting to comfort and/or distract her once you've said goodbye is absolutely basic. 6 weeks of not eating at nursery would also worry me, even more so if the staff aren't being proactive about it. DD1 did take a good 3-4 weeks to really eat at nursery, but the staff tried high chair/tiny table and chairs, with other children/on her own, spoon feeding/self feeding, encouraged me to send in her absolute favourites, etc. (and then one day she suddenly ate brilliantly and never looked back).

Yeah, definitely move.
