AIBU for wanting to be invoiced correctly?

My son goes to nursery on three days a week - Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. I’ve received the invoice for next year and questioned about bank holidays since he would miss 5 Mondays and one Friday. All they replied back was that they only charge for 50 weeks per year when they’re open 51 weeks to account for bank holidays. That doesn’t seem right because whilst that may work for kids who go full time, I would actually be paying for about half of the bank holidays since he only goes in on those days. In my first email I’d even done the calculations for them since I get the feeling it’s just one of the practice managers dealing with invoices who may not have a lot of bookkeeping experience and is busy with other stuff. Now I’m wondering if I need to just suck it up, I know nurseries aren’t making anyone rich but I also don’t want to be paying for days when they are closed.

How should I approach this?

Our nursery policy was that you just had to suck it up with bank holidays and pay.

Does your contract say there's no charge for BH then? Lots of nurseries and just average the payments equally over the year.

KateyCuckoo · 18/12/2023 13:10

*do charge that should say

Standard practice, DS1 used to do Mondays Tuesdays and Wednesday, I paid for all BH Mondays even though he wasn't there. Staff still get paid a full rate for that day. You could always switch form a Monday to another day to avoid the lost fees

Most nurseries I have seen charge for bank holidays though they are closed and yes this isn’t really fair to part time attendees who go on Mondays but it is very very standard. One if the reasons we chose a booking pattern which excluded Mondays.

everhopefulagain · 18/12/2023 13:15

It's completely normal to have to pay for the back holidays - regardless of if the child is full time or part time. It's just one of those things.

HippeePrincess · 18/12/2023 13:16

They always charge as normal for bank holidays and as so many are a Monday we also chose a pattern that excluded them as it made no sense otherwise being part time.

Thanks everyone. When he started I clarified what happens with bank holidays and they said they don’t charge for bank holidays. But they seem to be dealing with it by charging for one week less per year rather than being more precise about it. I guess I’ll try to swap him over to Tuesday but I don’t know how long the waitlist might be ☹️
