Transferring funded hours to another provider

Hi everyone! I'm in a bit of a dilemma and wondering if there's any parents here who can inform me.

So my DS has started his nursery 2 days ago. He is entitled to 30 hours. However, due to the interests of my child, I want to place him back into his former nursery who are happy to accept him.

I have let the new nursery know that I would like to withdraw him. They have said that 4 weeks notice is needed.

Now my question is, does he have to attend those 4 weeks?
I understand that it takes time to withdraw but how long until I can use my 30 hours again for the former nursery? Would it be after the 4 weeks or can it be beforehand?

I was thinking that if I cant transfer my 30 hours within those 4 weeks then can I pay for those 4 weeks until I can use the code again?

I just don't want to leave him in for 4 weeks as he will settle and it's not very nice to move him at that time.

What does your contact say? If he is not attending I did not think the nursery can claim the funded hours weather it's notice period or not. I would also check your rights with LA . You may need to be prepared to pay for the notice period at old nursery if they can't claim the hours or pay the months fees at new nursery for those 4 weeks if old nursery can use the hours for notice period.

I'm hearing that the code is applicable until the end of term!! Is that true? I won't be able to get my 30 hours until next year?

He has attended for 2 days only

Your code lasts until the end of term yes then needs to be renewed to prove you are still eligible, but does not mean the nursery get to keep the funded hours for the whole term! I would phone and speak to your lA early years team for advice , they will have a head count week at some point in September and if funded child has left I am pretty sure the nursery will only be able to claim for the hours they were there. On a side note if he has only done 2 days is this in total or only 2 days since being funded? Because new funded term has not started until 1st Sept if you are in England Or if he has only just started at the nursery do you not have a settling period where you can leave without notice.

I know my eldests childminder was paid the whole term in one lump sum....not sure if she would then have had to pay it back if I had decided to change childcare....

So his settling week has been since Tuesday. He's attended half a day on each day.
I asked to withdraw and they just said 4 weeks notice is needed.

You have reassured me by saying that the funding isn't completed until September.
I think I will speak to the school and just not have him attend for the rest of this week.

Potentially ask if they can share the code with the new provider instead? If it's not been used...?? I don't know how it works. I just don't want to be stuck in this until the new year!

This is another reason why many providers hate taking funding.

It varies between different local authorities, so you’d need to check for your LA.

Redpurplebluepink · 01/09/2023 00:28

You may be able to transfer the funding but the nursery may hold you to the 4 weeks notice and invoice you for the place. Best to ask them.

Snozzlemaid · 04/09/2023 22:25

Your LA will have rules around notice period for funded hours so you can check with them.

And it's your responsibility to give the code to the new nursery, it's not for the previous one to pass on.
