Does anyone work in a nursery and has used the PACEY advice for settling in?

I’m wondering if anyone has used this and did it work? It looks like it could take a while as it’s a more gradual approach and child led not just set times for all? I’m just wondering if it was successful

Everything we do should be around the needs of the individual child. I don't understand the problem

Never heard of Pacey, however the settling in plan is how we would offer it. We usually say it depends on the child and follow their lead. So there may be a child where they are fine from day one and others who need longer. We go by the child. Sometimes it's not the child who is having the settling issues, but a parent. There has been an increase of separation anxiety from both sides in the last 2 years than I have ever seen in my 30 plus years.

Although the keyworker thing of the keyworker being there every day isn't always manageable as I work part time but share the children with another staff member. We try to get the children used to all staff incase we have a time like covid where I came in on my day off to be the only member of staff known to the children.

PACEY used to be the NCMA (National ChildMinding Association) that was set up in 1977. They branched out to cover all Early Years settings in, I think, 2012 and are now known as the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years.

The president, Penny Tassoni, has been in position for years now and it was she who recommended this settling in process to us. I first read about it in one of her training books when the EYFS was introduced . She's a highly respected education consultant and Early Years author.

Her idea is that the bond between parent and child is a very strong one that is built up over time so it takes time for a childcarer to forge a second bond with the child that will enable him or her to settle securely with us.

It does seem like a good idea I’m hoping the nursery will agree with us that it’s worth trying 🤞
