If you moved your child from a private to a pre-school nursery....

Was you happy with your decision?

My DD (3 at the end of August) is due to start a pre school in September, but I'm having some doubts and starting to question if I'm making the right decision. My DD is happy in her current nursery, and we have had no issues. The pre school within her current nursery has a forest school and very child led approach to learning - they don't have tables etc.

The pre school attached to the school is also play based, but has more of a 'school' feel with more structure, some teacher led learning, assembly's and lunch with reception class. The pre school doesn't guarantee a place in the school (which is a private prep) but that doesn't bother us. I think my original thinking to getting her a place in pre school was to 'prepare' her for school, and I thought it was the 'done' thing. I can manage the term time hours (I work part time flexible hours) and there is wrap around care.

I'm starting to feel guilty about taking her away from the nursery she's is settled in and her friends particularly one other child who she has formed a close bond with. I feel like I have no choice but to send her to the pre school now as we've signed the forms, been in for a visit etc and they are expecting her once the school re-opens in the autumn term.

Im hoping someone tell me I'm doing the right thing by moving her. Or am I really not? Please help 😭

Mine went to both for the year before school - a school nursery (not associated with any primary school) and then her private day care nursery for wraparound. I found the school nursery a great stepping stone to primary school and was glad we sent her - but they follow the same curriculum so I don't think it would be a big deal either way.

If she will meet more kids she'll be at primary with by moving then that's a big positive IMO.

thank you both @Convincemebob @JenniferBarkley I would definitely consider splitting her time across the two, however the school-attached pre-school say that children have to attend 5 mornings as a minimum.
