20% off 30 hours?

So I've been told I can possibly save 20% off my sons 30 hours due to a government scheme. He starts 30 hours in September and I'll have to pay about £120 a month for lunch costs (that's what the nursery charge) but I've been told some of it could be covered

Will this affect my joint UC claim? We both work but get around £1,200 after tax (combined income)

Any help or answers appreciated as I don't want to apply then get myself in hot water

Maybe the Tax Free Childcare scheme Tax-Free Childcare - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) which gives tax relief on your childcare payments up to a certain amount.

I dont think you get tax free childcare as well as universal credit. So if you are claiming that you won't be able to get the 20% as well.

sofapaddling · 28/06/2023 18:14

You can't do the tax free childcare as well as UC. But I believe UC will pay up to 85% of your childcare anyway (to be included in your award, before salary deductions)

As above I think it's different (though the reductions are more) if getting UC

Do you qualify.for the 30 hours? You both need to be earning the equivalent of 16 hours a week ant NLW.

If you bring home £1200 a month joint, are you both working enough to qualify?

kermitloving · 29/06/2023 13:25

@Stopthatknocking yes we both work.

You claim the UC element for anything you have to pay over funding. You can't get both.

Danikm151 · 04/07/2023 12:57

You can claim through UC.
after the 30 hours, (stretched funding) my bill is £535 per month. UC pays £460 of this.
