How do you choose a nursery? What is the initial contact?

I've been given a number for a nursery that is attached to my workplace - I will be returning in September. I'm told they are quite popular so there might be a waiting list.

Sorry to sound stupid, am a complete novice, what do I need to ask them on the phone? It all seems so far away and I've not really thought about it - but I know I need to.

just phone and ask if you can make an appt to come along for a visit. its easier face to face. and you havent a clue til you step inside

First you need to tell them when you need the space and how old your child is, and are they going to be able to take her.

Get them to send you a prospectus, and book appointment to view. Download a copy of their latest Ofsted inspection.

Do you know any collegues who use the nursery? Have a chat with them.

thanks nailpolish. I think I am both excited and horrified at the thought of leaving my PFB with anyone, ha ha. I was planning to use a CM, perhaps I will, but it all seems like such a competitive market.

thanks CM. I don't know anyone else using them, because I am moving workplace, but I'll ask after friends-of-a-friend on the grapevine.

might be a good idea to go and see several nurseries, even ones you think you have no intention of using. It'll help you build up a picture of what you do and don't want/like.

I personally like to know that there isn't i high turnover of staff and that the majority of staff are qualified.
