Dd fell over, slight graze on head but nursery didn’t tell me..

Hi,
My dd is 3.5 & started nursery last month, doing 3 half days a week.
She is starting to settle in & seems happy. It’s a lovely nursery & the manager is great, overall I’m happy with my dd being there.

I went to pick my dd up today and noticed as we were walking home that she had abit of dirt on her face. I stopped and brushed her fringe back and noticed a light graze on her forehead. She said she fell over outside whilst playing. I asked her if any of the teachers saw and helped her & she replied that one of the nursery workers ( her key worker) helped her up, asked if she was ok, & took her to wash her face & hands. All appropriate.
Dd said she cried ‘for a little bit’ but that it doesn’t hurt now.

I find it strange that none of the nursery staff mentioned it though - I know it’s not serious like a bump or bleeding. I don’t expect them to ring every time a child falls over but I feel like they should have mentioned it at pick up. Am I being too precious?

A head bump should always be recorded and we call to inform parents for every injury above the neck - it may be that the injury wasn't spotted at the time, or didn't immediately become visible. At least you know she was comforted and cared for. Please do raise it next time she's in, it may mean the staff need to be more vigilant about injuries. If this happened where I work we would absolutely want to know about it, so don't worry about being "precious". They'll be glad you told them.

Thank you @unvillage
I will mention it to them tomorrow. I didn’t see her key worker at pick up, only the manager, so most likely key worker didn’t mention it to her.

Sounds like they did a good job of looking after her but just missed it, maybe because of the dirt and her fringe? Just tell them nicely at drop off so they can check more thoroughly in future. For head bumps I would expect a call home since that’s what we’ve always had, so you’re not being precious.

My son had a graze on his forehead that wasn’t mentioned. No accident form or anything.

I understand accidents happen but just like to know how they happened.

Emailed the manager, she asked the staff. Very apologetic and said it may be when he rolls around on the carpet when having a strop before going toilet( he has a flair for the dramatic) they now know to check under his fringe.

I wasn’t being precious just wanted to know, the manager was grateful as it gives an opportunity to remind staff about being vigilant

@FlounderingFruitcake @Danikm151
thank you. I mentioned it to the manager when I dropped dc off this morning.
She apologised that no one told me about it & said she would remind nursery workers that any head bumps/scrapes need to be mentioned to parents. She also checked the accident book & said it had been logged (I don’t think she knew about it to begin with) 👍🏼
