What to pack

Hi all
just wondering what you all packed for your children staring nursery.
My LO will be staring soon, at 1.
this is what I have on my list so far
nappies
creams
comforter for naps
puddlesuit
sun hat
sunglasses
2 spare plain complete outfits (1 long, 1 short)

what else do I need?

wondering about 2 things in particular..

shoes. LO only started walking 2 weeks ago. Haven’t even got soft shoes. But suppose will get something for starting nursery? Any suggestions? Will probably get pre walkers and leave them using that until they outgrow them so they still get as long as possible building up strength etc. But Nursery also requires shoes for indoor..?! Any suggestions?

also we have to send in packed lunch with our little one who eats everything we eat!
so was thinking sending in leftovers from night before… my LO can use a spoon/fork if we pre load but can’t scoop for themselves yet and still spills often so very messy!
but are nursery staff ok with children who aren’t good with cutlery yet?
or should I send in finger foods until my child is better with cutlery?

many thanks 😊

Shoes - definitely go to a shop and get his/her feet properly measured, they’ll be able to recommend the best kind of shoes.

I’d give finger foods as much as possible if it’s a packed lunch - I’m assuming they won’t heat things up for them. I’m sure they will help with spoon feeding but it’s impossible to give as much attention as at home, so the less messy food the better as they will get covered in it.

We have a set of clothes and coat/wellies that just stay at nursery, we just take them home if they’re soiled.

@Hazelnuttella thank you for your advice. We will go to a shoe shop.

and I’ll pack a spare summer coat that can stay at nursery too.

they will heat up food, but that’s a good point, I don’t want anything that makes too much or requires too much help etc or it might take up too much time for the staff.

Whatever you do, don't pack anything than you will mind getting lost or damaged . These boards are full of people who are upset that their nursery child's clothes etc have got messy or covered in paint/pen/mud. Label everything. Ask nursery what "everything" should be.

Thanks 😊 and totally agree!
I’ve ordered some name labels and I’ll label all
the clothes I don’t mind going to nursery. (Which consists of hand me downs/plain cheap multipacks/Vinted - maybe I should just use all the camouflage and red clothes lol - I’ve a friend who complains her daughter always comes back with mud/grass/tomato stains but she always sends her in white clothes 😂
Yes I’ll ask the nursery! We do have sown settle in visits so I’m sure everything will be clarified then.

At our nursery, nappies, wipes, cream, comforters, suncream, suhat, sunglasses etc all stay in a box at nursery so it doesnt need to come back and forward.

All we pack is about 4 changes of outfits each day. Maybe its just my DD, but I've never met a child who goes through as many sets of clothes as she does 🤯🤣 Especially tops and trousers as she seems to tip her meals all over herself.

I also sent a tube of anbesol to stay at nursery and slip a couple of teethers in the bag in case shes having a bad day.

Yes to some soft shoes.

Oh teething stuff!! I didn’t think about that! My LO only is two teeth so there’s plenty teething to come still!

If they will be carrying a bag in or keeping things like their spare clothes in a bag on their peg- get a destinctive bag, or one with their name on it.
When I worked in a nursery there would be like five plain blue rucksacks, four identical frozen drawstring bags and three identical mr tumble satchels all hung up in a row.
Then when you ask the work experience girl or the agency staff member to grab Jack's spare trousers from his bag (a blue rucksack) or to put the water bottle in Lila's bag (a frozen one)- things go missing a lot - even with photo labelled pegs, people make a lot of mistakes with similar looking items.
It was just much easier to say put Matilda's wipes in her bag- its that orange one with a walrus on it.

@Leafblow good idea thanks!
