Advice on waterproof gear for nursery

Bree82 · 11/03/2023 17:24

Hey all
just organising things for LO for nursery and wondering which type of rain gear to get?
do I send LO in with a puddlesuit?
Or a two piece?

And any specific brands you would recommend?
Nursery will be 4 days a week so want something that will be durable and be comfortable and of course super dry.
and recommended waterproof gloves ?

also will need a set for home and will soon be cycling LO everywhere. Maybe I’ll find a 2 for 1 deal lol.

thanks :)

I think a 2 piece is better for nursery. Not as dry as an all in one but for nappies or toileting they're much easier.

Waterproof gloves attached to the coat somehow are needed. Woolly gloves absorb water the second you touch anything wet, then from then on they're worse than having nothing.

Marblessolveeverything · 11/03/2023 19:34

Lidl or Aldi do puddle suits they were brilliant the creche had extra ones.

Keiki · 11/03/2023 19:48

Definitely Lidl waterproofs. Separates are better for changing and toileting.

ZebraKid71 · 11/03/2023 19:53

The lidl waterproof dungarees are amazing. They do trousers and coats too and such good quality but they are only in stock sporadically. Check out vinted as they last for ever so will likely be some second hand in good condition.

Angelik · 11/03/2023 20:08

Will the nursery be able to help your child put on these extra clothes? If not then just a good warm, water proof coat

Potatomashed · 11/03/2023 20:09

Another vote for lidl! Best ones and fully waterproof.

FutureDays · 11/03/2023 20:10

We bought bits for the eldest from wet Wednesdays and it’s lasted well, the youngest now uses it, we went for 2pc so it wasn’t such a faff if they needed the toilet

Rowthe · 11/03/2023 20:11

The lidl ones are great!

The only problem is they come in small sizes.

My 9 year old has grown out of hers and we would need to buy a different brand.

We use them mainly when it snows. Keeps their legs warm and dry.

Bree82 · 11/03/2023 20:44

Aw thanks all for tour advice.
ill check out Lidl/aldi on vinted…
@FutureDays never heard of wet Wednesdays … I’ll check them out too!
@Mysterian I never thought about gloves that attach! LO is still young so that’s a good idea thanks.

can anyone suggest a jacket that has waterproof gloves attached?
and seems like two peice is the way to go!
@Angelik on one of my emails from the nursery they do request that a pack a full waterproof outfit to leave at the nursery. (either puddle suit or jacket and trousers/dungarees..)
including gloves and wellies etc… I’ll need two sets of everything! It’s not a big nursery (35-40 spaces all together with only 3 in the baby room that LO will start in) so I think they have time for waterproof outfits. .. but it’s good advice to go for a two piece if that makes it easier for them.

but just in case I will send LO to nursery in clothes that I don’t mind getting wrecked! Just want LO to be comfortable above anything else.
thanks all :)

Type" children's glove clips" into Amazon!

Optionally · 11/03/2023 20:54

Lidl dungarees and matching coat when they have them in stock, if that’s not soon enough then secondhand Muddy Puddles or Lidl from eBay. The dungarees are better for little ones as they tend to sit down in puddles and then the water goes over the top of the waterproof trousers.

Mutabiliss · 11/03/2023 20:56

Check they need waterproofs for the baby room - at ours they didn't let them crawl outside when it was raining/cold, so didn't need wet weather gear until they went up to the toddler room.

I really like waterproof trousers with straps on the feet with a warm waterproof coat on top, because the all in one things are generally not very warm unless you get a full winter snowsuit, which are unwieldy.

Don't forget wellies once they're walking. Ours get left at nursery in a box outside so you need two pairs unless you fancy digging through everyone else's wellies at the end of the week.

And yes, Vinted for everything. Waterproofs don't get worn that much and are very resilient so great for second hand. Also bundles of clothes for nursery, especially if you're not very fussy about what they wear. The only thing I wouldn't buy second hand is shoes.

Oh ive just looked them thanks.. never new that was a thing lol thought I’d have to buy a jacket that came with them and I’ve already got waterproof jackets (lightweight and winter ) but that’s all I’ve got. Glad everyone is saying two peice! :)

Oh thank you, that was going to be my next question - trousers or dungarees. I’ll go for dungarees as LO is still so young. Thanks :)

The Lidl ones were in on Feb 26th, there might still be a few in stock in some stores.

I did get an email from nursery saying to bring full waterproof outfit to leave there. And wellies they take them out daily and have an outdoor classroom too . They have garden just for the babies but also a bigger one and twice a day mix different age groups together. They are near a lot of nice outdoor places too so take them lots of trips walking. - so I will need two of everything. I’ll be cycling as well so I really wouldn’t want to bring too much back and forth anyway lol.

yes I love Vinted
but I also don’t buy second hand shoes. :)

H&M ones are also pretty good - DS went to a European nursery which was very keen on “no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothes”; they were outside every day come what may, and these rain pant never let us down. Also look great after a year of constant wear.

Oh I’ve had to come back and ask another question!
do you size up? Or stay true to size?
LO will be 1 starting nursery

OP posts:
Optionally · 15/03/2023 09:29

Depends on brand. Lidl comes up huge, as does Muddy Puddles. H&M is more true to size.
