Is anyone very happy with their nursery even though it has a crap report?

Says it all really. The nursery near my new job has an ESTYN report (the Welsh version of OFSTED) that is, well, not very impressive to say the least. I am visiting it on monday but I wont know what to do if I am happy with what I see because of its lousy report.

Why did it receive a crap report? I mean, what was it about the report the inspector dammned?

there is a difference between somewhere having a crap report WRT to things that are now being fixed or changed, and a nursery that is taking no steps to improve

you have to ask some searching questions when you go to visit to see what they say, but to be brutally honest it wouldn't fill me with confidence initially

IME - DS's private nursery had an average report (it wasn't very good at paperwork being main criticism), but good local reputation. I found that they were all very NICE, but a bit clueless at dealing with special needs/language problems.

My daughte left last year and I never actually read a report the whole time she was there. Nor do I have a clue what the reports said. She loved it, I loved it - end of story.

To be honest, I can never quite work out why OFSTED is inspecting nurseries for. Obviously someone needs to but there are surely MAJOR differences in what a school should be doing and what a nursery which looks after chidren from birth should be doing?

I looked at my DS's nursery report before he went and it was most goods/adequates. I wa ssurprised there were not more really goods (or whatever the phrase is) as I chose the nursery on personal recommendations and it seemed to be a really great place, IMO. A lot of the less positive stuff seemed to focus on aspects of the 'early years education' which I do not give a fig about quite frankly. English kis already start school earlier than most across Europe, I just want my DS to be happy, safe, stimulated and have cuddles and fun at his nursery. having said that I would not send my DS to a nursery where there had been lots of complaints, especislly about things like staffing levels
or that type of thing.

My DS has a special health issue which the nursery had no prior knowledge of but I made it my business to give them the info they needed and they were fantasic and interested in getting to grips with it.

So, longwinded way of saying, go on your observations, gut instinct, ask questions etc about stuff thst is important to YOU.
