Mixing morning and afternoon sessions?

I've currently signed up to do one AM and one PM session a week for DS (3 in April).

There's many pros and cons to both hence the one of each but I wonder if it's wise to mix or would it be better/easier for him to settle if he did both AM sessions or both PM sessions?
AM is 8:45-11:45
PM is 12:15-3:15

I have DD who is 3 months and isn't yet in a 'routine' so to speak but obviously it would be nice if I could fit it around nap/feed times so I get a little bit of a break.

I'm a nursery nurse and I think a mix of both would be good. There are some things morning children miss out on in the afternoon and vice versa.

@TheWayItAllWouldGo thank you for reply, it's interesting to hear from someone who works in that environment!
I was worried it may be easier for him if it was the same start and finish times so he could get used to having a 'routine' but I do like the idea that he'll get to experience both, and hopefully we'd be able to change if it wasn't working for us.

I'd do AM. To wear him out for PM.

To add - he rarely has naps.

I'm surprised the nursery will let you do so little in terms of sessions. I don't think the mix of afternoons and mornings will be an issue but I do think he will find it very hard to settle doing so few hours and the routine between the 2 sessions being so different.

Mine both went to preschool rather than nursery, but they did a mix of mornings and afternoons. We started out with just a few sessions and then increased them to the full 5 sessions. Well, DS ended up doing 6 sessions, one paid by us.

By the end of preschool DD did 3 mornings, one full day and one day off. DS was doing one morning, one afternoon, two full days and one day off. On the days off I took them to toddler group in the morning.

They're 8 and 4 now and adored preschool! I think a mixture was good for them, it got them used to having lunch, etc.

@R0ckets I think most places have a minimum of 2 sessions per week, around here they do anyway and we've viewed a fair few.

That's really surprising around here it's definitely more common to have a minimum of 3 sessions although most do more and the general rule is often on consecutive days to help settle and create a routine.
