Is this normal?

DD started preschool in September. We’ve never been made aware if she had a key person and there’s only been quick chats at pick up about how she’s getting on. Wondering if this is something that goes on in many settings?

Is it preschool as in the year before primary school? Is it a school nursery?

I've had a child in preschool since September and we've had a written report and a phonecall about how he's been progressing. Plus updates daily on seesaw about what they've been learning.

He also goes to a private nursery one day a week and I never hear a thing from them other than a "he's been fine today" or something. So it can vary in my experience.

Oh and DS's keyworker was made known to us on the paperwork before he even started, so we know who it is.

If it's 'pre-school' as in a school nursery class then there will be a class teacher plus various TAs. Not a 'key worker'.

If it's a nursery for 3 -4 year olds even if it's Montessori I assume they would be following the Early Years Foundation stage of education - where it is teachers not key workers.
I have always assumed 'keyworkers' are a childcare thing. If this is a 'pre-school' then it would be different because it's education not childcare.
(I may be wrong about that though)

DS has a keyworker in his funded preschool and not his private childcare nursery. I'm in NI where preschool is free and follows the early years curriculum.

All Ofsted registered settings should appoint a key worker and they should be the person who has most to do with your child in order to build a securely attached confident child. It shouldn't be just paperwork. They should work with you in meeting your child's learning and development needs
