Missing nursery school

Hi my child attends school nursery, they're strict about attendance but for my medical reasons (I haven't obtained any written proof of this) I need to be away for a month for treatment abroad (dental - too expensive here). This was a pending decision until now.
It's nursery school - they can't exclude us for absence right? I will obviously send them a letter but can't contact them now.

If you have free hours you may find you need to pay for the missing hours. Obviously if you pay you will still need to pay.

Assuming your child is 4 or under then attendance isn't compulsory.

Do they receive early years funding for their place? That may be the issue. The children are expected to regularly attend if the Government is funding the place. If too much is missed then funding could be withdrawn so potentially you could loose your funded place.

Could you not have received your treatment over the school/nursery holidays? That would have helped avoid issues.

It depends on how you pay really.

If not using funded hours they can still ask you to pay when not using it to keep the space.

If you're gone for a month they could easily say you have to give up your place entirely.

Thanks for your replies all.
Just to answer this was an emergency and last minute tickets were too expensive.
Waiting until next holidays - not sure if i can.
I suppose best to wait until I can speak to nursery so until next week ...

If it's a state school nursery you can't be fined for absence but could lose a place if they think you are wasting it and it could be used by another child. In your circumstances I'm sure you could explain and it would be OK. Talk to the school.

How old is ur child op?

Brightblueskysunshine · 26/12/2022 18:53

If the child is under five you simply need to fill out the school leave application form. They normally grant that as unauthorized but you can still travel it's mostly for their own record.

It’s more the funding aspect, for my DD nursey anything over 2 weeks “might” impact funding, so you are liable for more payment

Thank you for answers. @Brightblueskysunshine she will be 4 in the spring. So not in reception yet. I will ask for the absence form, didn't know about it, thank you.
