Don't want to stop contact naps before nursery

My DD 11months old, will be starting nursery in mid Jan. At the moment she contact naps and is nursed to sleep. Once I was able to let go of the anxiety that I was doing something terrible by letting her sleep this way, it's actually become one of the favourite parts of my day.

However, I am mindful that with nursery beginning soon I do not wish for her to struggle without me but equally I don't want this last month to be all about forcing her to change her current sleep habits.

I am just wondering what other parents did to prepare their little ones for the transition (if anything)? Did you start sleep training? Change when or how much you breastfed? I've had one friend say that they soon find their own rhythm and not to change a thing but just wondered what other parents experiences had been?

You don't have to change it!!! Your little one will realise that she's in a different environment and sleeps differently there. At home you can continue to contact nap and nurse no problem!!

Exactly this. Speaking from experience. Currently nursing DD to sleep, she went to daycare today and slept well there...

I found nursing to sleep a lovely way to be close to my baby when I was home from work and she was back from her childminder. There's no need for you to stop what you do.

Little ones are actually quite adaptable. DD managed to sleep at the childminder, although she sometimes held off falling asleep so the nap was a bit later than ideal. It was manageable though.

We carried on our normal routine on the days I wasn't at work.

DD's nursery used to rub their little backs to get them to sleep when that age! Always managed to sleep brilliantly at nursery for the several years she was there.

Still fed to sleep at home. All good

Having worked in a number of nurseries, this simply won't be done. Your kid will just have to nap how every other kids has to nap, the staff simply don't have the time to specialise for your kid.

Enjoy your time with her at home. She will need the comfort when she starts to reconnect with you.
She will find her own way at nursery. The only thing I did was introduce a comfort toy that I held next to them for home naps and then sent into nursery. Hadnt had one before but they did then use at nursery. Buy a few of the same one.

At my children’s nursery they would use carriers and buggies for those babies who needed it. Also rocking cots, and they would happily pat or stroke to sleep if needed. Mine slept in cots mostly by the age they went to nursery (11mo ish) but needed cuddling to sleep. Nursery staff were fine and things changed over time anyway. Speak to the nursery itself rather than relying on people here, they are the ones who will be looking after your baby.

They slept mostly in cots for naps, but coslept with me at night at that age. My babies who needed lots of contact with me (wanting to be in carriers most of the time, still cosleeping and breastfeeding), transitioned to nursery very easily. I was lucky with their personalities, but also just ignored everyone who said they would be traumatised by the change and I didn’t need to do anything particular to prepare them for different ways of doing things

Our dd 15 months and third dc contact naps and breastfeeds on demand when with me. She's been in creche since 12 months, sleeps in a cot for them or sometimes dozes on someone's shoulder. They figure it out themselves there.
