Anyone changed childcare because of constant nursery illnesses?

DS is 16 months old and has been at nursery for nearly 5 months now. He is booked in for 3 days a week but he misses more than half of his days because of sickness. He is ill every 2-3 weeks. I do send him in with a runny nose/cough and when I keep him off it’s nearly always because of a fever or vomiting/diarrhoea.

Has anyone with a similar experience changed childcare arrangements to a childminder etc? Did things improve? I have no family support and am spending some time apart from DH, so have to constantly take time off work and I’m getting worried about my job. GP assures me that this is normal and DS is absolutely fine.

Is it just that bad for everyone right now because of not mixing during lockdown?

Hello. I need an advice. My toddler started nursery 3 months ago and he had already 4 accidents and he is sick for 4 weeks. He had 3 antibiotics for that period of time . Wha should I do. To change nursery, to stop him I seriously don't know......?

Sickness is so normal in childcare. He will get bugs wherever he goes and better now than school.
Are you saying he's been hurt!hurt himself 4 times in 3 months because that sounds a lot.
I would probably move him on that basis but he'll likely get ill wherever you send him..

In my experience, childminders are sometimes more amenable to, for example, having a grumpy child with a cold who's not seriously ill. So they miss less time.

Really this is building his immune system and it does help in the long term. Kids who don't mix much then get all the bugs when they start at school and it can make them behind with learning.

For a start, ignore the muppets that have said in the comments this is normal and they’re surprised. It’s normal To a degree. Whilst you and your child like mine build up an immune system, your job is at risk, amongst other things. Parents are selfish. That’s the bottom line. And apart from that absolutely mind numbing. I’ve seen it all, from wiping surfaces n doors with baby wipes at school, to parents in the queue coughing all over you: like parents like child remember that.

Now it’s a choice you have. And yes you do have a choice on what to do. Obv this post is a few years old but for anyone stumbling on it, good luck. I’m at a cross roads myself. My son who just recovered from the ear n chest infection a week ago, went to echo for a few days and caught a sick bug off kids whose parents knew they were unwell. It’s Xmas eve tomorrow and we all really sick. That’s life? Yea it is, but more to the point that’s people.

nurseries are a true breeding ground for germs. And you’ve got a lot of comments from so called nursery managers. Okay, bottom line is apart from parents n teaching kids to be cleaner, it comes down to the school itself! Do more! Clean! Starting with washing your staffs hands!! Properly !!!!!

anyway, peace lad.
