Afternoon sessions in nursery

From September my DS started a school nursery 3 mornings a week. It is a bilingual nursery teaching my first language. I think it is important for DS to learn at least basic spoken language so he can communicate with his cousins and other people when we visit my country of origin.
In addition the school nursery takes children to the nearby park so my DS learned how to cross roads etc. The nursery children mix with Reception class during some activities which I think helps my DS to prepare for Reception. Essentially since DS started the school nursery his behavior has changed to better.
It is a school nursery and they do not have wrap around care for nursery children. They have long term breaks like many private preps do.
DS has a nap after morning session in the school nursery usually around an hour. Then I take him to the nursery which he has attended since he was a baby. The nursery goes till 6pm. I pay full time fees to the nursery to secure his place for all 5 days and term holidays.
Nursery management is now giving me hard time saying it is disturbing for staff and children when my DS turns up around 2:30pm.
DS is 3,5 but he still needs day naps. Otherwise I could have got him to the nursery by 1:30pm.
It is difficult to find a part-time nanny or a childminder for 3 afternoons a week and it will be more confusing for DS to have 3 child care settings.
I cannot drop the nursery because my DP likes it and he insists on DS going there. Despite the fact that none of our neighbors like this nursery which is 5 minutes walk from our estate. They their children to various nurseries further away.
My question is probably to the nursery staff if there is anyone here. Is it actually bad idea to have afternoon sessions only?

Just to add prospective none of the children from DS's nursery are going to the same school with him. In fact majority of his class moved to various school nurseries in September.
I think attending school nursery my DS will learn how to make friends in the new setting which should help when he starts Reception next year.

It isn't a bad idea to have afternoon sessions only, but it can be quite difficult for a child arriving a good way in to the afternoon.
Many Nurseries (most?) afternoon Nursery sessions start at 1pm - so the issue isn't 'doing afternoon only' sessions, it is 'arriving 1/2 way through the session', and yes, it isn't helpful for the child or the staff in truth.

Can you drop him at nursery and he can nap there?
Not sure on your finishing times etc.

Why can't he go straight from one to the other? If he naps he could have it there....although it's pretty unusual at his age. Does he have a normal bed time?
What will you do for childcare once he goes full time? Do you need wrap around and 14 weeks holiday cover?
