Concerned about what is going on at nursery.

My son is 2 and a half, recently when he comes home from nursery he will hit himself in the head and say "thick thick thick"
I have no idea why he would be doing that unless he has been called it.
My husband and I have never refered to him as thick, neither has an family members and I highly doubt other 2 year olds in his class would do that at this age, so I am concerned it could be a staff member.
It is very out of the blue for him and I hate seeing him call himself that.

Could be doing some actions to a song and not getting the words quite right?

machanicalmovement · 25/11/2022 16:45

"Miss Molly had a dolly who was Sick Sick Sick", and they pat their heads....

Just throwing it out there just in case.

Echojoke · 25/11/2022 16:46

Possibly miss polly ‘who was sick sick sick’

Mysterian · 25/11/2022 16:46

Miss Polly? "Miss Polly had a dolly who was sick, sick, sick".

Echojoke · 25/11/2022 16:46

Haha that’s what I thought straight away, Ex nursery worker here

AnotherAppleThief · 25/11/2022 16:51

Also came to say it's Miss Polly had a dolly!

Most likely this.

Twizbe · 25/11/2022 16:53

I had no idea that was the action to that song. Learn something new everyday

SunshineClouds1 · 25/11/2022 16:54

I would of said Miss Polly also!

mynameiscalypso · 25/11/2022 16:55

This is exactly the same confusion I used to have with my DS. I am woefully uneducated about nursery rhymes and the associated moves it appears!

RudsyFarmer · 25/11/2022 16:55

No member of staff would ever call a preschool child thick. It just wouldn’t happen.

This. If that is what the OP is implying, then that is way off the mark.

Can't believe you are even implying it OP

Clearly it is going to be Miss Polly had a dolly

LeafHunter · 25/11/2022 17:11

Like everyone else I’d have said Miss Polly. Maybe sing it with him?

My other idea is that a fairly insecure member of staff says if about themselves and he’s overheard but I think that’s fairly unlikely.

Namechangetorespond · 25/11/2022 17:15

While I think it could be what others have said about nursery rhyme or it could even be that your son has seen an adult or child doing it, I wouldn’t rule out your concerns straight away, but I have to say I am saying this purely based of my own experience which was years ago. Hopefully you will discover it’s all totally fine though.

Haha me too!

GG1986 · 25/11/2022 18:17

A lot of toddlers can't pronounce "S" so I think it's him saying thick instead of sick. Ask the nursery at next drop off if they play or sing that song?

What did this turn out to be OP?
