Sickness

Hi my boy started nursery in July. There has been a constant stream of illness. So far I've had to leave work twice to pick him up as he has had a temp. He's been off for two separate weeks. He always seems to be ill! how long before things settle down?i only work two days a week and had to phone in sick twice since returning from mat leave as I have no other childcare. It's starting to stress me out as I know I can't keep calling in sick but what's the alternative🤷🏻‍♀️

I hate to say it but mine lasted 18 months like this. We just had our longest spell of non-illness ever (4 months). It was absolutely relentless and has been the most stressful part of parenting. BUT allegedly DD’s year group was the worst hit by lack of immunity due to lockdowns etc and from my many evenings scrolling similar threads it seems an average is 6 months, ish.

@Cuppasoupmonster aww god!was hoping you would say that I'm on the home straight🙈

op I am seriously thinking about pulling my one year old DS out and getting a job in the evenings or something. He also started in July, he’s had conjunctivitis, endless coughs and colds, ear infection, three separate d&V bugs and now, he’s off with hand foot and mouth. I can’t do it anymore, it’s so stressful juggling things when he can’t go in and paying all that money and I’m exhausted from the stress of it, and feeling so terrible for him.

When my eldest started nursery he was absolutely fine. He obviously had the colds that did their rounds but I didn't notice the big backlash of illnesses others say.
My youngest however... started in sept and he's had 3 separate colds and now has tonsillitis!
Caught up with my eldest unfortunately when he started school!

The pressure of childcare and work is so much isn't it. I have no advice but just to say you're not alone ♥️

The first winter was the worst for us with DD1, it felt like the barrage would never end. However, by the time the kids started at school they had bombproof immune systems 🤣

Mrsmch123 · 24/10/2022 21:25

We have had 4 viral infections, a chest infection, tonsillitis and never ending colds😩it's honestly never ending. Hoping by the time he gets to school he will be bulletproof! Also what I didn't really consider was how often I would get ill because he was ill😫 anyway hoping to make it though the month of November without having to take time of work🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

After about a year it settles down. Is there anyway at all you can offer to swap a day with your employer? They might prefer that?

Mrsmch123 · 26/10/2022 14:44

@lentilly here's hoping🤞🏻I can't swap days as I have no one to watch him while I work as I can only afford to send him to nursery the two days I'm at work.
