Would you complain about this?

I collected my son from nursery today, he's 2 years old. I believe the ratio is 1 nursery assistant to 4 toddlers for his age.

He got two scratches, one on his arm and one on his face. They happened at separate times and they don't know how he got either of them.

I know accidents easily happen with toddlers but I'm not happy that they don't know how he got either of them in one day.

I don't want to make a formal complaint but I want the manager to know what's happened. I don't know if it's worth me saying anything and if so how to word it.

I'm not sure. Is it just two little scratches or are they bad?

Personally I get scratches all the time and don't know how I've got them or I'll accidentally bump in to something and have a scratch/cut/bruise - I wouldn't necessarily expect a teacher to notice that especially if he's anything like my 1.5yr old Son who seems to not feel pain!
He's always bumping himself and ends up with bruises/scratches but never reacts to falling over/bumping in to something.

If however, it's a bad cut or something then I would expect them to have noticed

Just to add, how do you know they happened at separate times if the teachers didn't notice?
If your Son told you, is he able to tell you how they happened?

Scratches? What kind of scratches? &!yeah, how do you know they were at different times?

EnlightenedSlug · 28/09/2022 22:44

They told me that they noticed one when they were changing his nappy this morning and only noticed the other right before I collected him.

He only says a few words so wouldn't be able to tell me about it.

They are more than just a scrape. The one on his face is quite long but thin, it's from his eye to his chin, it looks like a cat has scratched him...but obvs there's no cat there. The one on his arm is more like a thicker graze like an inch wide by two inches. I don't think either drew blood.

My sons came out with scratches afew times.
I've never questioned it tbh, children can end up scratching when trying to get a toy off someone else etc.

Biting etc different story.

Mine had a mystery scratch the other day. Didn't bother me at all, as long as he's enjoying us and having fun.

My little one came home with 2 broken front teeth yesterday 😭 nursery is savage

My son had this. Keep an eye on it and absolutely make a formal complaint.

It started with "oh kids will be kids, etc" but it kept going and my son started hating nursery. Then ofsted did a report and all areas were inadequate. He's at a new school now - no mystery scratches and runs in happy. It's not normal to miss it over and over.
