Nursery got closed because of a serious incident last month

But they told us they were closed because of refurbishment. The incident is a toddler got hurt badly under the supervision of the staff and the family reported the nursery to Ofsted. Ofsted closed them down for a couple of weeks and found the staff was not properly trained amongst other findings…

We signed last week with that nursery and I was not aware of the incident, I only found out yesterday while being out with my mums friends.

I’m worried, should they have told us ? I feel I was not given all the infos and couldn’t do an informed decision about the nursery. What would you ?

I wouldn't be using that nursery. Obviously.

Airbnbdisaster · 17/09/2022 19:51

Yes but do you think they should have disclosed it before we signed ?

They lied & told you it was closed for refurbishment. You will not be able to trust anythi g else they now tell you. I would not send my child there. I think that you have a reasonable expectation of having any deposit refunded due to the misinformation.

What do you think?

Do you think they should have lied and said they were closed for refurbishment when they were closed because of a serious safeguarding concern?

I'd say the answer is quite obvious!

Come on, OP. Why are you even asking this?

user1477249785 · 18/09/2022 13:19

Obviously OP is asking this because she needs to decide how to proceed with the nursery and wants to be sure of herself before tackling that. I think that's eminently sensible.

Airbnbdisaster · 18/09/2022 19:59

@PenYGore I paid a huge deposit and obviously I won’t dc there but will I be able to get my non refundable deposit knowing what I now know.

You certainly ought to be able to. It's the kind of thing you could contact your MP about.

Tumbleweed101 · 19/09/2022 19:23

The nursery may not have been able to say why they were closed until investigation was complete. Once complete they should have something on their ofsted report page.

I'd call the nursery and discuss with the manager about what happened so you know how secure you'd feel about your child attending. Request your deposit back if this chat is unsatisfactory .

In circumstances like this, I think you should be able to get your deposit back.

We had a one month notice period with our nursery but following a horrendous takeover by a chain and a terrible ofsted report they had to waive the notice period and we got back all advance payments.

Did you manage to get your payment back?
