Child tax credit and childcare vouchers - am in terrible muddle please help!

Any help with the following situation much appreciated!

Dh and I both claim £243 a month (each) childcare vouchers from work. We get basic child tax credit of £545.34 and no working tax credit. Someone has recently told me that I should have informed the tax credit people about the childcare vouchers, which I haven't, so am now panicking.

Thing is I don't think it will make any difference to our tax credits. Having read all the paperwork, it says that I don't have to tell them about a change in income (am assuming the vouchers represent a change in taxable income?), although it may be in my interest to tell them about a decrease in income as we might be entitled to more tax credit. Not applicable in this case I'm sure. Can anyone shed any light?

Oh should probably add that I last spoke to the tax credit people BEFORE claiming the vouchers, so they know about our taxable income pre-vouchers.

If you aren't claiming the vouchers as childcare costs for tax credits you don't need to let them know you are using them. If you do have them on your tax credit claim you need to get them taken off as you can't claim for vouchers and tax credits for the same payments(but if you only get the 547 then it will make no difference to what you get)
You do however give them the income after the vouchers have been taken off but if this won't drop your income below the threshold on your last award notice again there is no need to tell them.

Thanks Champagneforlunch. Am slightly less confused now. dh and I are both waiting to hear about pay rises at the moment so maybe I'll get in touch with them after that and just clarify the income bit.
