Anxious about Pre School

My DD is three and has only ever been looked after by family. She’ll be starting preschool in September and I’m so nervous about it. I think she’ll love it, but I’m particularly worried about how many bugs kids seem to get at nursery. Any positive experiences where kids weren’t constantly ill?

She will have a fabulous time I'm sure but as is the way when people mix in new environments she will inevitably catch every bug going for a good few months at least, possibly longer. Whilst frustrating at the time try to remind yourself it's much better for her to do this now than when she starts at school. Smile

She will love it.
May be afew tears going in but they soon settle and it's amazing for them.
Catching bugs, I would brace yourself because they come thick and fast. My son was ill constantly for 6 month.

So no one manages to dodge the bugs then?!

Children need to catch bugs to strengthen their immune system, so it will be a good thing for her.

Mine have had plenty of colds but rarely been ill enough to miss a day of nursery. In 4 years I've missed one day of work, my husband a few more in covid times.

No, it's pretty important for the development of their immune systems and a perfectly normal part of life. The same will happen many times over her life such as if you move to a new area or if she goes to uni.

Mine weren't ill when they started their Nursery year, but they had mixed with lots of people previously - childminder groups, creche at Church, etc - since they were tiny.
So I don't think it is inevitable unless they have been completely isolated.
If they haven't mixed with other though, then good to start at Nursery age rather than school age.

Thanks. That’s great to hear

Hopefully we’ll be the same!
