DEFIBBRILATOR

Hi all, my daughter has recently been diagnosed with a heart condition and now has to take a defib with her to nursery. Our nursery would like her back but are struggling with their insurance. Has anyone ANYWHERE in the UK, has their child attend nursery with a defib?

Many thanks

I work in a nursery and we have our own defibrillator on site. I've never come across a child having to bring their own. Not sure if that helps you- insurance would definitely be in place but it could be because it belongs to us? Might be harder to get insurance to use yours?

Yes I imagine it's because it's your own - in the event something went wrong there might be a blame game as to whether they were trained on that particular model, who maintained it and ensured it was working correctly etc

Thanks both. We insure the actual device it’s more the insurance for her to attend. Our nursery want her back but we’re trying to find another nursery whose insurance has covered a child like this. Not easy to do Aparently! Thanks anyway x

It's not the insurance of the device that will be the issue. It's the insurance of the child using the child's own device.

If it malfunctions or they use it in correctly, or they aren't trained correctly then there could be issues and you could sue.

If they can use their own defib then they eradicate any of the above issues if they ever have to use it.
