Question for nursery/preschool workers

For those of you who work in nurseries or preschools, do you ever get attached to any of the little ones you care for?

I'm asking this due to my little girl getting really attached to her nursery key worker. My dd is leaving the nursery in September to start school and I know she will really miss her keyworker.
So wonder if any of you in the same job miss the kids when they leave?

Yes!!! ive been a nursery practitioner for 8 years and I absolutely do miss children I have cared for in a professional sense x

Of course! There's children I've worked with for over two years who are off to school soon and I can't imagine the place without them! Every July I get a bit emotional seeing them go off on their next adventure. We often chat about children who have left even years ago "remember when so and so did this? I saw so and so at the shop the other day!" Rest assured your daughter's key person will remember her and miss her especially as they have such a strong bond! It's unavoidable!

You do miss them, but mostly when your job is preparing them for the next chapter you feel proud that they are ready to move on.

Lovely to hear this. Also I think July break will be a little emotional especially knowing they will probably never see each other again!!

Not a nursery worker, dd is leaving her lovely nursery to go to school this September, and her key worker checked what her last day would be because she didn't want to miss saying goodbye if she was on holiday on her last day Smile - and said she was relieved she'd have had her annual leave and be back before her last day..

It's lovely that they are attached - I'm sure it's bittersweet for nursery staff, because they've watched many of the children grow, for 4 years in my dds case.

It's like primary school - every year most of the teachers in dds school cry at the year 6 assembly - because they've watched them all grow and flourish for 7 years.

Those are the type of people who we want looking after our children - knowing that they want the best and are invested in them doing well.

Yes we do. It's not so bad for me working in the baby room. They leave but I still see them in the other rooms. When I worked in pre-school it was always pretty sad but they tended to leave one at a time over the last few weeks. The really tough bit was when I left a nursery and had to say goodbye to everybody at once...I did cry a bit.
