Gov funded hours when on term-time holiday

My DC is at a private day nursery. No funded hours yet but I plan to go on holiday for 3 weeks when they are 3.5 and it’ll be during term time (May as well make the most of it before school starts). I will obviously need to pay the nursery fees still to keep the place but just wondering what happens with the funded hours? If the nursery don’t receive the funding when they’re on holiday then I’ll need to pay for the full day rate.

They will still get funding for a holiday.

Hi, I would check with your local authority, as providers are not allowed to claim the funded hours for when a child is on holiday . Those hours are then lost to you and you will have to pay full fees to the nursery. Just like they can’t not claim 10 hours e.g and your are only using 8

Poster above is correct you’re not meant to claim funded hours for holidays/ days out. For a short period I think you’d be fine but for 3 weeks absence I’d expect to pay full rate.

Thanks I’ll speak to the nursery and see what the position is. I will not leave the nursery out of pocket so if they can’t claim the funding I will pay full fees since it’s my choice.

What happens if the child is sick with day chicken pox that requires a couple of weeks off? (I'm not suggesting lying, I'm genuinely inquiring about sickness)

Government guidance states you can keep your funded hours for holidays. There are limits and the local authority will be able to give guidance as should your nursery.

I think it is fine if the absence is explained and not usual. So a holiday is OK but a parent not sending them in every Tuesday 'just because' will be queried.
