Sorry sounds daft but what do children normally wear for sleep time at nursery?

As I said, may sound a bit daft but dropped DD off late at nursery last week and when I went into her room all the kids were in nappies/underpants and vests I thought, asked why non of the kids were fully dressed and told they were getting ready for nap time. Found it a bit strange as it was about 11:15 and nap time doesn't start till 12:00. Is it normal for them to sleep in just underwear? I never really thought about it before, always just assumed that they might take jumpers and shoes off but that was it, but feel a bit mean as I never put a vest on DD as she is always running around and gets quite warm, am hoping they leave her with a t shirt on. Will check with staff this week, just wanted to see what others thought. Thanks

hmmm, think thats quite odd too. IME nurseries just put them down in their clothes.

How old is your DD?

curlywurlycremeegg · 07/01/2008 22:13

she is 2.10. DS1 went to nursery full time from 18 months to school age and I never remember anything like this but he is now 12 so things may have changed a little.

my children always slept fully drssed when thry were in nursery. IMO they should only be stripped off if clothes need changing or if fever present( when hopefully they would inform you to collect them)
Seems odd to me especially so long before nap time, mind you set nap times is a bit

My friend tells me that her daughter and the other children at her nursery spend most of the day just in vests because it is so very hot in the nursery.

curlywurlycremeegg · 07/01/2008 22:16

Is set nap time odd also, shows how much I know, should have asked more about things before sorting out nursery place! Not that I am unhappy with the nursery, it's just that this seemed a bit strange to me. DD only goes 2 days a week and not for a full day so not really in to the swing of what really happens at other nurseries etc yet

Normal clothes. 45mins+ without clothes sounds odd especially as there must be a few draughts in there...

Nappyzone · 07/01/2008 22:20

when my dd got into tweenies they all had a set nap after lunch before then they went on there own routine. They slept in there clothes less shoes with a blanket over them - they only didnt wear main clothes when they had managed to spill there dinner all over themmselves beforehand.

curlywurlycremeegg · 07/01/2008 22:21

actually it is really warm in there but now feeling like a bad mother for not being aware of this sooner, to me clothes equal dignity, maybe I am being a bit barking about this now!

Also can I ask is it normal for the to use bibs on 2.10 year olds? I am assuming it's because they don't want parents complaining about dirty clothes but it seems like a bit of a step backwards at that age.

Mine doesn't use bibs after they have left the baby room at about 18 months. They don't have set nap times either, just let the children have a sleep if and when they want to, wearing normal clothes. In fact they said to me they make a point of not putting them down to sleep, they just let them go to sleep if they say they want to, or if they flake out somewhere! Not sure if that is right, it's just different I suppose

If they didn't use bibs they'd have complaints about constantly dirty clothes - it is a lot more eco friendly to use a bib. Odd about the clothes - unless it is hot in there,in which case it's just comfortable.

I've never met a toddler with dignity yet, unless it has been enforced by the parent ("Tabitha! Cover yourself up, we do not want to see your private area!" "Sowwy mummy")

curlywurlycremeegg · 08/01/2008 08:39

colditz, I know, think I was going a bit mad when starting to think about the situation, it made me feel a bit uncomforatble but I wasn't sure why and ended up thinking too deeply!

The nursery local to me strip them off to vest/pants or nappy, in a darkened room. I used to see them getting ready when I picked up at 12.15
