Footwear at nursery

My DS is 16 months and has been walking for a couple of months now. We only put his shoes on if he’s walking outside, as my understanding is that at this age they should wear them as little as possible as their feet are still developing. But at nursery, they keep them in shoes all day. Am I wrong to think nursery should know to remove babies’ shoes indoors cos it’s better for their feet?!

Unfortunately the whole barefoot thing hasn't made it to mainstream yet really so I wouldn't expect nursery to be aware of this.

DD's nursery were the same. I bought her some very soft Bobux to be her indoor footwear at nursery. Bobux (and a few other brands) specialise in being more similar to walking barefoot than structured shoes.

No shoes at all in our baby room - staff and children. Just ask them - I'm sure they will take your little ones shoes off inside if they know thats what you want.

My son only wears his shoes outside at nursery... if they tried to keep them off he would try to take them off haha

I'm surprised the babies keep them on tbh. We let the children run barefoot as much as is practicable in all rooms as its good for the development of the foot as well as coordination and proprioception etc.

Our nursery likes to have the children wear indoor shoes rather than just socks or barefoot, because in the case of a fire/emergency evacuation, it is nicer for the children to hurry outside wearing shoes. If they were barefooot, they'd be barefoot in an emergency too, whatever the weather.
