Should I be worried about constant temperature - Toddler at nursery

Hey, I'd love some advice if possible as I'm beginning to get a little worried. My toddler (27months) was born a few months before the first lockdown and started nursery last April 2021which he was 17 months. He had a few illnesses pre-nursery - one weird UTI and a throat infection and that was about it. We were very bubbled during Covid and my son only really saw adult family before he started at nursery. I know it's a cliche with toddlers going to nursery but he has been so ill since he began last April. The first two terms were a shocker (Noro, multiple viruses, croup etc) with the third term before xmas being more bearable with the odd temp and runny nose but nothing more. We then had a month off over the Christmas holidays as his nursery is term time only and my god he's been seriously pummelled these past 6/7 weeks since he went back. It started with an out of the blue viral wheeze episode (first time) in mid January which ended up with a hospital trip in an ambulance and to be honest he's not quite recovered. He's pretty much had a temperature ever since. We all came down with a gnarly virus that wasn't covid about a month ago that took even my partner and I three weeks to shift. For him though it's been nearly 7 weeks of a temperature. It's gone up to scary heights once or twice around 39.5 to over 40 but mostly it hovers around 37.7/8. I'd saw he's had about 5 days in 7 weeks where it's been below 37.5 since mid Jan. This has meant so much missed nursery and just a lot of worry really. Is anyone else experiencing anything like this with their lockdown toddlers or should we be pushing to have it looked at more seriously? His chest has been checked 2 -3 times by the GP since the viral wheeze episode and it's been clear. Any advice would be amazing. Thank you!

The illness is all completely normal, COVID or no COVID. Mine were both in nursery pre-COVID and literally were ill from November to May each year with a constant cough. We had the horrible thing that went around in January (which wasn't COVID, had that in December) and we all still have lingering chesty coughs 6 weeks later.

The temperature likely indicates some sort of infection or inflammatory process. What did the GP say about the temp? I would certainly want it looked into as a temperature for more than a few days is pretty unusual.

Thanks for getting back. Yes agree that the illness side is pretty common but the temp a little worrying. The GP repeatedly asks how he is in himself etc (mostly fine) and thinks it's just multiple bugs.

I rang back this afternoon and they suggested we could get bloods done next week. I think that's probably a good idea. What sort of inflammation do you think would cause a low temp?

Thanks,

K

We are having the same issues at the moment with illnesses. Hard as it is working I found a long time off nursery helped him to properly regain his strength and he didn't go down with the next virus so quickly. I find when you send them back when they feel okay they are still prone to pick up the next virus more quickly as their immune system is low. Hard to do that this year as I'm back in the office but when working from home last year I did that and it helped a lot and broke the cycle.

Hi! I know this post is old but could I check how things went? I’m having the same issue at the moment and I know it’s so normal but can’t help but worry a little bit!

Our DD is 2 and has had a temp anywhere between 37-37.7 daily since December. It goes down when she sleeps (36.5ish) but varies throughout the day. Temp has been higher during this time due to UTI (low 38s) and croup (40+!) but average daily temp seems to be about 37.5. Blood tests have come back fine and she seems fine in herself but was really hoping she’d be back to “normal” by now! Did anyone get any answers?
