Temperature at nursery

This might sound silly, but would there be any reason that baby's temperature would be momentarily high.

I'm asking as my 11.5 month son is at nursery. Today I got a call to come and get him quickly as his temperature was 39.1 - he had felt warm they said after his nap / during nappy. That is very high and of course I panicked.

I am cautious and never send in if he seems unwell, even without a temp as I have family who can help look after him. I picked him up and he was all smiles at the door, he had eaten his breakfast and lunch and had his milk. Came home and he was playing. I say this as historically if he had a temp this high he would really not be feeling good in himself like this. I took the temperature at home and then every couple hours and it has been in the 'green' and very normal (around 37), so not even slightly higher given how high it was at nursery. I even asked a friend on our road who is a doctor, and they kindly checked and said he was fine (i thought maybe incase it is thermometer)

Last time they called, and I was already there to pick him up early, so they hadn't given calpol yet. They tried to give it at door, but he was fussing so I said i would give at home. But took him home and no temperature (so no effect from Calpol). Again, i really feel like I would know if he was that sick, but had been fine in himself (and no temp as soon as I check)

Has this happened to anyone? Could there be any reason his temperature is suddenly high for small amount of time like that. I'm also asking as each time they record his temperature like this, I have to go and get a PCR test which I would really like to avoid on a small child.

Thank you!
