You know they go to nursery when....

Last night DD1 (4y) came marching into the kitchen to ask me to change Bear's nappy as "I am on my own with the babies" ??! She also likes to explain that the various teddies can't have particular foods as it makes them poorly. A few months ago, she would announce "I am on my break". I always wince a bit when either DD comes out with something that I know but they learned at nursery rather then from me but then they surprise you with a song you never heard before which is nice, so all in all the nursery role play makes me smile.
I am trying not to think about what she may be doing there that she has picked up from me....
Anyway I wondered if anyone else got this?

Abject fury when you don't know the words to an obscure song they sing there. And always wanting to "sit on the carpet, Mummy!" for stories.

they say toilet instead of loo

Dd aged just 3 started nursery about a month ago. She now calls pants knickers which dh and I find strange and tells me she has to sit down like a good girl in the car (they went on a minibus trip)

they start counting up to ten and you know that they didn't learn it at home.

motherinferior · 22/11/2004 11:29

They come into your bedroom singing A Ranger, A Ranger, prompting hasty Nativity For Beginners story from atheist mummy.

I say toilet too - does that make me really common? I do hope so because I am an inverted snob! (we also have a living room or lounge - deffo not a sitting room)

You know they go to nursery when:

...they pick their nose and eat it (not learnt at home I can assure you!)

...show you the contents of their mouth when they are eating (likewise, not learnt at home)

I love the surprise songs. On friday DS came back singing part of a song..
" A Boa A Stricter, A Boa A Stricter, And I don't like it one bit"!
Assume he means "A boaconstricter..."!
We get told "hands on knees" when we put the plates on the table for lunch/dinner. You have to keep your hands on your knees until everyone has their food and then he says "Ok, thank you everyone, you may begin".
And my favourite; if you do anything that isn't right e.g. pinch a chip from his plate. Exclaims very loudly "how RUDE mummy".

nasa · 22/11/2004 12:21

and also (as DS goes to nursery in Manchester) he comes back saying
"mumma" and "Dinna" (dinner). Neither DP or I really have accents.

......they raise their hand at the table and say politely "Excuse me, Miss Dadddy".

Coj · 20/12/2004 22:36

This had me in stitches! I can just imagine it all happening! Found myself going "ahhh" & can't wait for it to happen to me. (DS 15m & at nursery)

CathB2 · 21/12/2004 12:22

DD1's latest thing is to draw a stamp on my hand when I have been good....

what a hilarious thread!!

havent laughed so much in ages.

dd1 is only 2, she comes home and says 'thats not nice' if daddy is picking his nose!

she had her xmas party the other day and i went along with baby sister (whos 9 wks). when dd1 went to santa for her gift at the party she took it nicely and said 'wheres kirsties?' in a demanding voice! santa was lost for words!

i was crying at the thoughfulness of a 2 yr old
