Childhood sniffles etiquette. Confused FTM

Hi I'm a confused first time mum here about to send her 10 month old to nursery. I noticed a sign on the door which said not to bring your child in if they had sniffles, cough, cold etc. Now obviously I wouldn't send my child in with a horrible cold, covid, stomach bug etc. That all goes without saying however I can't have a day off work everytime my son has a sniffle - it would be every other week!

I've been told this is the norm in nurseries and not this particular nursery being fussy. So i just wanted to know whats the realistic etiquette when it comes to children with a bit of a cough/snotty nose etc do you all really have days off work/get alternative childcare or am i missing something?

Unless my DC are really unwell with a temperature etc then I would send them in (as do the other parents). They have a runny nose from September to March pretty much all the time so if we kept them home for every sniffle they would never be in!

The rules at mine are not to bring them in if they have a temp, being sick, diarrhoea or a contagious illness ie chicken pox.

If they just have a runny nose, they can still go.

Not the norm. Sniffles etc constant at nursery, as are HFM and all these other ones where they can still mix. M

It varies. Our nursery/preschool say not to bring in if the child is feeling ill, but sniffles etc are fine.
Friends nursery makes them do LTF tests on any child displaying any sign of illness - sniffles etc - regardless. They will also send away any child presenting with any sign of illness at the door on arrival until a neg LTF has been shown - utterly ridiculous.

Ours says temperatures and new continuous coughs no (and obviously stuff like vom bugs) but colds are fine if they're well enough in themselves. Otherwise they'd never have any kids in!

If it’s green then keep them home 🤣
Toddlers have a permanent runny nose so keeping them off for a snuffle is impossible

Phew glad there is still some common sense out there! I was thinking if that's how it works I may as well start thinking of being a stay at home mum.

Not the norm at my DDs nursery. Every kid has a cold and snotty nose constantly in her room. Which is good for their immune systems, but shit when my DD has asthma & catches EVERYTHING.

We are happy to have them with a runny nose if they are otherwise well. If they are poorly enough to need calpol we don't take them or if they have temps or upset tummies
