My son hates nursery

Iv just started a new job in a nursery, and my 16 month old is going to be attending 2 days a week while I work.

He went for 3 settling in sessions (Monday-Wednesday) which were an hour each an he was absolutely fine and played with the otter children and didn't cry. On the Thursday he went in for a whole session (1-6) and was like a different child, he cried all day and didn't eat a single thing!

What makes it even worse is that I work in the room next to him, so can hear him crying all day which is quite distressing for me!

I know I should give it a few weeks to let him settle in, but any advice?

This is pretty common IME. DD was jolly for her first settling in sessions but then the jig was up when she realised what was going on Grin It took a couple of weeks for her to settle in properly once she was going and since then she runs in with nary a glance back 🙄

It's early days and nursery will be well used to dealing with it!

Most children take a while to get used to nursery. I think the fact he knows your next door is worse. Can he not go to another one? I know it sounds silly.

Exactly the same for us.
Settling in sessions were fine and it took couple weeks for him to settle into the full session time.
Are you a nursery worker too if your in the same room?

Nursery staff usually get discounted places for their own children but I definitely see the point of your suggestion, not silly at all.

It must be tough. I have to say, at our preschool if a child just won’t settle despite all efforts, we’d call the parent in not let them cry all day. That must be very distressing for you and for your baby. I wonder if th ey can hear you since you can hear them?
