How often are nurseries closed

Can I ask how often your nurseries close during the year please. I have twins who have recently started nursery.

Nursery is closed two weeks over Christmas, two weeks over Easter and bank holidays. Not sure if this is the case with other nurseries as dates aren’t published on websites.

It’s just a bit hard as twins are still young and would mean using most of annual leave on these days as closed so much. I was hoping we could use term time for breaks etc at least before they started school (which is still a few years away!)

Tia!

Ours is open 50 weeks a year, roughly, not including bank holidays. So they are closed over Christmas until after New Year and they are closed the last week of August (around the bank holiday weekend) as most people seem to be away then anyway. Otherwise, only closed bank holidays.

To be honest, this is the easy bit. Wait til they get to school, a 1-2 weeks every 6 weeks all year plus 6 weeks in summer.

Hiya, I’ve worked at two nurseries.

One was completely independent - closed early on Christmas Eve and reopened first non bank holiday week day after New Years, so one week closure. Closed Bank Holidays. Did not charge for these sessions.

Other was a national chain, one of the biggies. Bought our nursery out and reopened the Christmas week, so open all year minus bank holidays. Charged full whack for Bank Holidays despite closure. Left 7 years ago so not sure if that’s still what the chain does, it’s one of the big two, but if you need open all year take a look.

Is it attached to a school? There is a term time only nursery at the end of our road, but that's no good because we both work full time.

Ours only shuts for one week between Christmas and New Year, and bank holidays. I really value being able to have annual leave without needing to look after a toddler as well, it's bliss to book a day off to myself!

Ours is closed weekends and bank holidays. We don’t pay for bank holidays - I know some nurseries charge for them.
