Daughter normally in Bed at 8pm. If she naps, I ensure it's not past 2pm and sleeps
For 45mins to 1 hr Mx. Pick her up and nursery say she napped today. Follow same routine. It's now 10:50pm and she has not slept!!!!

Do you think she overslept at nursery?

On the positive she's been singing Christmas songs.

She is almost 3.

Mine used to do this. So I asked the nursery to not let her nap. She was the only one that didn't nap and ended up helping the nursery workers. But at least she went to sleep at a reasonable hour in the evenings!

There's no way of knowing....sometimes they just do this out of the blue and for no apparent reason. They're going through such immense physiological changes all the time that some variation on sleep patterns is to be expected. Plus, she's probably excited about Christmas.

You can't always keep children awake if they have long days at nursery. We have children 'banned' from napping falling asleep over their lunch or falling asleep much later in the session than if they had gone down with the others, they can't always be kept awake, and probably shouldn't be. Overtired children will struggle to settle at bedtime as much as children who have had a late nap.

A good and consistent bedtime routine is key to helping them settle at night. Sometimes they just aren't able to settle for no obvious reason.

Ask the nursery to tell you what their nap routine is there. It may be different to the one you have at home. If your child is there every day or most days then they may be able to work out a nap routine with you through the week. ie monday they don't nap, tuesday they do, for example.

Didn't they tell you long she napped for?

I don't think it's unfair on the child to be kept awake if they still need a nap.
It makes hers, yours and the nursery's day harder.
An overtired child is not fun.

You need to communicate with the nursery and come with a plan.
