Hello

Wanted some advice, private nursery, do we still pay if....

  1. days DC should be in land on a public holiday? e.g Christmas Day
  2. If the nursery close due to unforeseen circumstances
  3. Days between Xmas & NY, not public holiday but nursery are not open

Thanks!

It should say in your contract, some charge and some don’t

TheOpportuneMoment · 17/12/2021 18:19

We pay a set amount each month. No change depending on public holidays/closures. I think it's averaged out and split evenly over the twelve months, as far as I can remember from initial conversations.

SickAndTiredAgain · 17/12/2021 18:26

We pay a set amount each week, regardless of bank holidays.

We didn’t pay when they were shut during the first lockdown, nor during the week they shut in summer 2020 due to a staff member testing positive.

vincettenoir · 17/12/2021 18:28

It’s standard to charge for Xmas holidays but there are some that don’t.

Thanks don't know why I didn't think to check the contract! Looks like we pay for all scenarios. Great HmmSmile

  2. Depends m, didn’t have to pay when he had been in contact with a positive case at nursery.
  3. no. They’re not open so no fees.

No to all. Nursery closed between Christmas and New Year.

Not charged during covid lockdown, initially parents asked to pay if we could. We did and received a refund when nursery reopened. Not all local private nurseries could offer this.

insancerre · 18/12/2021 08:09

I work in a nursery and we charge for bank holidays but parents can ask to swap for another day- full timers already get a discount on fees
We have never closed due to unforeseen circumstances
We are open between Christmas and new year so it’s normal fees
Every nursery will be different so read the contract and clarify with the manager

BobbleWobble1 · 18/12/2021 18:29

Every nursery is different. Most round here charge for all of these things. Some also shut for staff training days.

Ours doesn't charge for public holidays or the period between Christmas and New Year when they're closed. They also do staff training on a weekend. I suspect they would charge for closure due to unforeseen circumstances but this has never happened outside of covid where they did change their policy.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 18/12/2021 19:08

Yeah I manage a nursery and we charge when we are closed for Christmas and public holiday- it is in the contract!!

Inset days are the only thing we wouldn’t charge for ! Also unforeseen stuff never happened until covid - and we didn’t charge then!!

meditrina · 18/12/2021 19:12

1&3 depends on how they calculate your bills. If they have amortised the planned closures into the bill, then yes you still pay. You could if you wished swop to a nursery with a higher daily rate which doesn't charge for he says they are closed. But you'd end up paying the same over a year.

2 - they should waive/refund. And they should have insurances that cover most circumstances that lead to unplanned closures

PollyRae16 · 18/12/2021 19:19

We pay for any bank holidays in full and the week in between Christmas and new year is half fees for any days not BH so the extra BH days are particularly annoying
