Nursery demanding daily lateral flow test for 18 month olds and younger!

Ok so I'm fuming! On Friday we received an emailed letter at 5pm stating from Monday 13th December till 31st December 2021 every child must provide a negative lateral flow test EVERY DAY or they will not be allowed to attend nursery!

My son is 18 months old, has had to have nearly 20 PCR tests since starting nursery in feb this year all negative!

We test twice a week as a household including my son but this is a step to far!

I'm now going to have to put him through the stress of testing every single day !

Surely they can't enforce this?!?

Do not drip water on it, fuck sake. Unless you're paying privately for the tests.

If you're ordering government funded tests then it is 2 a week. And you shouldn't be pissing tax payer money io the wall by dropping water on them.

You'll have to argue it out with the nursery. If they are telling parents to order more and more government funded tests when they should only have 2 a week each then they need to be told to stop.

But unless you do the test at nursery or are allowed to show a photo then the ones we’ve got say to read within 15 mins and not after 30 mins so taking in the actual test done at home just before you leave and you live very close is not going to be accurate anyway

Let us know how you get on OP. I’d be interested to know Ofsted’s view on the nursery’s ridiculous plan. I hope you get it sorted.

Frazzled2207 · 13/12/2021 09:42

As a mother of a 6 yo who is genuinely traumatised by the tests this is awful however as a private nursery I think they can make their own rules
I’d just be doing the test myself to get her in while I find a better nursery

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/12/2021 09:42

I’m all for regular testing in the population. Fail to see how this can practically done on such young ones though? Short of holding them down and forcing their mouths open.
I’d be asking nursery if that what they’re advocating.

RedToothBrush · 13/12/2021 09:45

Ofsted report and getting the nursery to explain in writing why they are going against health advice re under 4s and testing. Make a stink.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 13/12/2021 09:45

Tell the nursery to provide the tests.

discoland · 13/12/2021 17:10

Interesting considering the gov website has run out today

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 13/12/2021 17:27

Can you do a test on them when they are asleep? Nose only?

I don't think nursery should be asking for testing btw!

Isn't it only high school and above? None of my primary / preschool children are testing. Well obviously we have done some PCR tests.

My high school child, myself and my husband are doing lft 3 times a week

Pawsin · 13/12/2021 20:28

I work in a nursery so completely get the worries staff face but that is completely ridiculous, I wouldn't even test myself every day unless for a genuine reason! Our nursery doesn't force any child to have a test, only advises the parent to get one if they have actual symptoms, so no I wouldn't be happy with that at all OP. I can't help but also worry about the amount of plastic being disposed off if everyone is taking tests everyday willynilly!

Danikm151 · 14/12/2021 14:29

I'd refuse. Tests are bad enough for adults but for little kids who don't understand they are horrendous.

They should be testing the staff instead of the children.

Realitysucks · 15/12/2021 09:09

Just an update guys so this morning I was advised that daily testing no longer required due to an update from the educational service on Tuesday 😂🤣😂🤣😂 wondering if this is a coincidence or whether my contact with ofsted Monday is anything to do with it ! Anyway I'm pleased we no longer have to do daily testing !

Brilliant, I bet it is because you reported it OP.

Nikki305 · 15/12/2021 22:10

Fab news! Well done!

fedup078 · 15/12/2021 22:11

I bet more than the op reported it
Anyone who has ever had to test a toddler should be up in arms against this
It's cruel and damaging

Tumbleweed101 · 16/12/2021 22:42

We have never asked for daily testing - but we would like parents to take it seriously when their little ones are poorly and not send in children with temperatures, new coughs etc without at least doing a LFT.

We've had to sent a few home recently with 38/39C temps and then they are in again the following day :/
