Information on app

My little one started nursery a couple of weeks ago. I just got access to the app yesterday and can only see entries from this week, but going by that he had one wet nappy change over 2 days, only had 1 meal and snack each day, and no information about naps. Are they expected to provide all this information each day? I thought they would have been. I don’t want to seem like a pushy parent if not, but want to know that he’s being changed etc

As someone who works in a nursery it’s a right pain in the arse having to remember to update the app
Especially in a busy room with lots going on. You can guarantee that if you take your eyes off the children to put in nappy changes or meals, the children go feral and all hell breaks loose
Apps are also so temperamental, stuff gets lost in the ether or goes to the archive file instead of being published. That’s if the app lets you log in in the first place
Worst ever invention

Thanks, completely appreciate that! I only know one person who’s had kids in a nursery recently and she got every change/nap etc written down each day, wasn’t sure if that was the norm or not.

But why do you need to know about each nappy change?

VioletLilies · 24/09/2021 10:41

It’s more I like to know if he’s eaten well/what naps were like so I may know what he’ll be like at bedtime. She was surprised when I said I didn’t get all of the information so as I said, just checking what I should be expecting as I have no idea.

I never had food or nappy change info when my one year old was in nursery. To be honest I’d much rather they put the effort into looking after the kiddies. You’ll know if they’re not up to date with changes as they’ll get a rash.

Paperwork is driving people away from working in childcare.

We have an app and the staff seem to update it sporadically. Some days it's all updates and others barely anything. Sometimes it's uploaded I've picked DC up. I can imagine they're super busy. Just ask at pick up if they've been ok/slept well.

I work in a nursery, our app is only to show our activities, eg what we have made that week etc.. other basic info like nap times and food are handed over in person at collection time. There is no way we could allocate that much time to data entry on an app!

VioletLilies · 24/09/2021 11:14

Thanks! I’m happy with the nursery, he’s settled in so well but as I say, my friend just said I should have got more information. Hers clearly did pass it on, but if that’s not what happens everywhere then that’s fine, I just wanted to see others experiences. Completely get the time it would take to update everything.

We get told about naps and food verbally at the end of the day, they write it down and have it by the door at pick up.
I’ve never felt the need to ask or be told about nappy changes, unless there is an issue, in which case they do tell me.

Tumbleweed101 · 26/09/2021 11:51

We don't put ours on an app although the info is written down on a daily basis so everyone knows for handover time if a parent asks.

We will generally make sure info is given to parents of children who are fussy eaters, if a child is sore or having other toileting issues,.or for new potty training children or if we have a parent who always wants an update daily.

RobinPenguins · 26/09/2021 11:54

I would expect to be told about naps and food for a 1 year old, not necessarily on an app but at handover at the least. When my DD was that age they had a book they wrote naps, meals and nappy changes in. When she moved to the toddler room it became a verbal update about naps and meals, and now she’s in the preschool room we have a verbal update about meals.

Ask them when you pick him up. That’s when anything important should be mentioned.
