Has anyone been allowed back in yet??

My daughter started nursery when the world reopened last year in July and I have still not seen inside the place! I just drop her at the gate every morning and collect her again in the evening.

Please don't get me wrong, I appreciate what they're doing for infection control to try and keep everybody safe but I'm just itching to see where she plays and her peg where she hangs her coat.

The nursery staff have told the parents that they are reviewing the situation and will keep us updated but I'm just wondering what experience everyone else is having with this?

We're not allowed in yet. I don't think it's helping at all with their infection control as my DS has been ill pretty much every week since he started 3 months ago. They've dropped masks at the gates and no bag / soft furnishings rules etc. and I think it's pretty normal once the kids are inside now.

I have no concerns about my DS's nursery but do have safeguarding concerns about nurseries in general being so closed off to anyone from outside. I don't necessarily want to be in and out of my DS's nursery all the time and I'm sure the staff don't want that but no parent has been in there since it opened around the start of the first lockdown. If there was a nursery where there were issues I think it's unlikely that anyone would notice at the moment (particularly where you've got children who are too young to tell you about it.)

I have two year old twins who recently moved up to the 2-3 year room. The nursery have recently confirmed that they don’t intend to return back to how it was before. Parents will continue to drop children off at the doors. The reason they gave is that they have found that children were more settled being dropped off at the door than when parents were allowed in.

RobinPenguins · 20/08/2021 20:15

We haven’t, they’re reviewing it in September.

CornishGem1975 · 20/08/2021 20:16

Nope, I've never stepped foot inside. It's under review in another month. I don't mind to be honest, it seems to go smoothly dropping off and picking up but it would be nice to at least have sight of the rooms etc.

DisgruntledPelican · 20/08/2021 20:18

Never been in DS’s nursery, and the regularity of photos/videos have dropped off a bit too. I’d love to see where he naps as he goes for way longer at nursery than he does at home

HotPregnantLady · 20/08/2021 20:18

Nope, exactly the same as you. It feels really odd to drop your child off each day without seeing the inside of the building!

Hardbackwriter · 20/08/2021 20:18

Our nursery confirmed a couple of days ago that they're dropping all their other covid measures but keeping dropping and collecting at the gate because the children are more settled that way. I'd prefer to go in a) because I'd like to see inside and b) because this way there's often a queue but if they think it's better for the children then I'm ok with that.

Mine has said the same. I'm fortunate that my child is older but I found it very reassuring that I could pop into the room to collect any time and see what was going on when they were little and would probably be put off.
Badabingbadabum · 20/08/2021 20:28

I've been into our nursery since last July. Until a few weeks ago it was on parent upstairs and one downstairs at a time, only one person dropping off, shoe covers, hand gel and masks. They let a couple of parents in at a time now. I was fortunate as I had two dc go through the nursery and dd2 was just into in preschool last march so I haven't minded not seeing in the room so much but its nice to have a peek through the door when I get her. I wouldn't have been happy if they had said no to anyone going in, especially if new to nursery.

BabytoBoris · 20/08/2021 20:30

I e been into ours for a special parents meeting session precisely so we can go in in an organised and careful manner. We still do doorstep collection etc though.

Theworldisquiethere · 20/08/2021 20:31

Since after the Easter holidays we’ve been allowed in for pick up and drop off, only 2 people at a time and with face masks on still though

CakeandGo · 20/08/2021 21:12

Our nursery are keeping all existing measures but following the bubble guidance. I wanted to see the preschool room, that my DC will move into. I asked and was told, no parents allowed :(

Tuscancat · 20/08/2021 21:16

Still doorstep drop off, collection and masks. But we are just about to move rooms and have been allowed a quick tour at the end of the day so we can see the new room. I think this is a reasonable approach.

cansu · 20/08/2021 21:19

I think it is really poor to keep these measures after the need for them has passed. Nurseries and schools should be open. I work in a school and we have simply asked visitors to wear a mask and keep a distance. Schools and nurseries are part of the community and should welcome people whenever possible.

Longestsummerever23444 · 21/08/2021 18:00

Ours has 🤗🤗 however it is only when the nursery is quiet - ie the summer hols I’ve been allowed in every day to pick her up. It’s lovely as can see her really enjoying the environment. Drop offs are still at the door, and will remain which I think is sooo much better and quicker!
Collections whilst quiet we can go in (with a mask) . I’d imagine this will change when the term time only kids start back in sept. But in the intermin it’s lovely

FlatToppedTree · 21/08/2021 18:06

I've been in a few times at pick up and we also had a preschoolers leaving party inside. Day to day its still at the door drop off and pick up.

Leftphalange · 21/08/2021 18:07

They haven't here. I'm happy doing collections and drop offs at the door but I would like to have seen inside the place properly at some point.

ADialgaAteMyDog · 21/08/2021 18:15

We were sent an email saying we weren't allowed in, but since then I've been right into the room, which wasn't allowed even before covid! I think it may just be because it's quiet though.

Lazypuppy · 21/08/2021 18:16

Yes we are for pick up, have been since monday. But not drop off as too many people at once whereas collectipn is staggered as most kids do slightly different hours

Fupoffyagrasshole · 21/08/2021 18:18

Nursery I work at is probably never going to have parents come inside again for drop off and pick up - it’s way easier this way 🙈

However if any of the parents want to see inside we have allowed them come on a Saturday to have a little look while we are closed ! All new parents have seen inside as they have been allowed settle the children briefly inside.

Are your nursery doing open days at all? Maybe you could go to one of those and get a little look inside

sempiternal · 22/08/2021 08:06

I work in a nursery, I'm not sure if they're going to allow parents back in! It's been so much easier and children are happier. They separate from their parents much better at the gate. Then at the end of the day you don't have the babies and younger children getting unsettled seeing unfamiliar faces coming and going, crying when the door opens but it's not their parent etc.

OatyLatte · 22/08/2021 08:11

Ours has said parents will be allowed in from September. Tbh I prefer outside drop off and pick up!

sheusesmagazines · 22/08/2021 08:13

No and long may it stay that way! I do the drop offs and they are so much quicker at the door. My toddler started nursery just before the pandemic (Jan 2020) so I did get to see inside for a little while and do normal settling.

Donutsrock · 22/08/2021 08:15

We’re going in for parents evening at the start of sept and then pick ups will be inside from then. It’s such an odd situation that we’ve never seen the place she goes and is so happy, it will be lovely to actually see the place.

I can see why places would keep it as it is though, I would think it speeds things up and stops you having parents hanging around inside (I was that mum with my first!)

Runrigdan · 22/08/2021 08:18

Ours hasn't. I'm actually fine with dropping off and collecting them outside, but I wish I could go in to have a wee look around inside just to see what it is really like.
