How many settling in sessions did your little one have?

My son is nearly 2.5 and he's had three settling in sessions the past week. First one I was with him and he loved it. Second one was an hour and I wasn't there, they said he was fine up until about 10 minutes before I picked him up. The third was for 2 hours, he cried going in then I rang after half an hour and they said he was fine then when I picked him up and he seen me he started crying.

He starts next Tuesday properly, only doing 8-1. My friend who has a little boy the same age had settling in sessions for 2 months then he started properly! I'm just thinking I've rushed into getting him in so quick and maybe he needs more settling in session.

How many sessions did everyone else's little ones have before they started properly?

We offer 2
Both of an hour and both without a parent
Sounds harsh but it works so much better than having the parent there

I think leaving him to be a bit upset, be comforted by the staff and see that you do come back is much more conducive to settling in quickly than the hokey cokey approach. Wave him off, say bye cheerily, he'll be fine.

My boy had an hour with me then I left for an hour then I think he did 2 more 2 hour mornings without me then went into mornings 7.30-1 for 2 day then full days 7.30-4.30
The 2 hour sessions were free and what the nursery recommended but I wanted a few more half days before he went to full days which I paid for. But looks like your DC is only doing half days anyway so I think it'll be fine.

Very similar to you. Two months of settling in seems counter productive and very disruptive for everyone not least because I don't think work would have taken kindly to me skipping out all the time to pick up DS during a ridiculously long settling in period!

We had two - one with me, one without. I honestly think that it's better not to prolong the settling in. They do get the hang of it quite quickly and I think having you there too much will be confusing.

We had three. I was there for the first 20mins of the first one then left for the other two. It worked ok for us!

Hi im not sure if im starting a new thread or on the one im on
My son 2.5 has just started nursery tomorrow will be his third day and he hates it.
The teachers wont let me in due to covid so i couldn't even see him on the first day
Just drop off and leave.
He was excited for his first day but now he doesn't want to go.
I was getting him to sleep and all he kept saying to me is he doesn't want to go nursery he doesn't like it.
Im getting a bit worried as to why the teachers always say hes fine but when i pick him up hes crying so hard.
Am i allowed to go in for a bit and watch him while he doesn't know im there so my worry can at least be put to ease?
And do the teachers always tell the truth on how the child has been?
