Nursery report end of year

Hi all,
My dd is 4.5 years old. Just received her end of year nursery report. She has scored 30-50 in all areas with a mixture of Developing and Secure I think like 3 and 4 of each. My concern is that is she behind?
A friend of hers as scored 40-60 in everything some secure and some developing. I know don’t compare and all that. And I’m sure other children have scored same because I’ve overheard parents at pick-up. This has me worried now. Is she leaving nursery without the skills she needs for school? The fact that some of the scores say developing is of a concern for me. Because she’s 54 months so to be just developing at 30-50 ??? I will ask the teacher on Mon but I know she’ll just fob me off with all children are unique and develop at different rates. Please let me know, am I just being paranoid ?! Thanks all

Would it help to look at the statements and see if you agree with where they placed her? Rather than worry about if she is on a place on a tracking system then look at what she can/can’t do and think about how you could help her achieve it? She will be fine at school in all likelihood- both my summer born children weren’t even 5 until the end of the year!

The age related expectation for the end of Nursery (so due to enter Reception) is either 30-50 secure or 40-60 emerging. There’s variation because the children’s ages could vary so much- they could be anywhere between 47 months (i.e still 3 now but to turn 4 next month before starting reception) and 58 months (I.e. already 4 and due fo turn 5 in September- oldest in the year).

Is she at a school nursery or a private nursery?

As PP says, could you look up the statements and see if you agree?
Try Development Matters www.foundationyears.org.uk/files/2012/03/Development-Matters-FINAL-PRINT-AMENDED.pdf Although these has been a new EYFS curriculum this year/rolling out next year so there will be some differences to this document.

Please don't worry. My daughter hasn't been to nursery a lot this year due to various reasons but they put her in beginning for alot of things and emerging in about 2 categories. She's a very bright child. I wasn't happy but I just ignored it because it's not worth the argument. I've looked at the statements too and I don't agree with where they placed her. I wouldn't worry too much about it tbh.

By all means have a chat with the key worker but bare in mind that the Early Learning Goals go right to the end of reception year at school. Nursery will have flagged it up if there was any concerns x

As I understand it, it might just mean they haven’t had a chance to observe the child doing something. I don’t think it’s uncommon for more extroverted children or children who attend more hours to be observed doing more things and, therefore, get a higher assessment.

30-50 is the expectation for when they start school. It definetely does depend on how often your child attends nursery and who their key-person was aswell... If it helps, they are doing away with the age brackets from Sept 2021 so it won't mean anything

Santastealer · 24/07/2021 17:02

Don’t give it a second thought.

To be ready for school it is ideal if she can;
Deal with her own toileting
Leave a caregiver without being upset
Cut up her own food or open packaging
Put on her own shoes and coat
Write her name
Recognise her name
Recognise digits to 10

If she can do all of this then she definitely isn’t behind!

My 4.5 year old got his report last week. It said for reading he was developing 30-50. He can easily read a sentence such as “the dad was singing a daft song” so I’m fairly sure he isn’t behind at all! Nursery often just don’t see them doing the things they do at home.

BackforGood · 24/07/2021 17:10

Don't give it a second thought.
She is where she "should" be for a child starting school.

All sorts of things influence what is marked off at what level.
Is she in a school Nursery about to go into Reception, or a completely different Nursery ?
How often does she attend ?
How confident is she ?

Pinkpepper79 · 26/07/2021 22:39

Maybe they haven't seen consistent evidence at nursery setting to mark her higher even though she can achieve things. I really wouldn't worry

Hi, did you speak to the nursery. I ask-because I’m in the same situation and am
totally confused but it! A lot of my daughters assessment in nursery were emerging so now I’m concerned

unvillage · 01/08/2021 19:50

@user1471003665 do you want to talk about your concerns, or start a new thread of your own about them maybe? I'm sure people will be able to reassure you.

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 01/08/2021 20:41

I hadn't actually twigged until a friend told me, that the number range relates to age in months! If that helps.
