Teeth cleaning in nursery

Does your child clean their teeth at nursery? As of September my child's nursery is going to be cleaning their teeth. Surely that is my responsibility as a parent. Teeth cleaning is a little activity I like to do an make it fun. I don't want a paid member of staff taking on that role. There is no opt out option. New government guidelines or something

Children need as much encouragement as they can get to clean their teeth properly.

About 48 years ago when I was at junior school we had a mobile unit come to our school. They taught us all about dental hygiene, made us chew those red tablets that dye the plague and showed us the right way to brush our teeth. I still remember it vividly to this day as it had such an impact on me. I think it's a great idea that they are doing this and I would be delighted. Too many children are not bothering to look after their children's teeth and it's the children that suffer. Maybe not yours op, but others might be.

Tooth brushing is a chore, not a special moment between parent and child.

Oh my god just read the update about cross contamination of toothpaste. I can’t even begin with that one! 🤣
I know. Can you imagine the cross contamination that happens in nursery schools? Toothpaste from a shared tube would be the least of my worries.

Where I worked children had their own brushes, cups and toothpaste. If they didn't have a toothpaste they brushed without any (better than nothing).

Good, I know 3 under 3s with fillings!

Where do you live?

Because in our area, NHS only fund extractions under GA for paediatric cases, fillings are not an option. And I simply don't believe you know that many 3 year olds who will sit still for a filling...
