Does your nursery charge when self-isolating?

Hi, we just started our 9 month old in nursery this past Monday. Things were going really well and she was settling (apart from a few upset moments) and today I turned up to be told a staff member was exposed to someone with Covid so the nursery is shutting down for 10 days ☹️ I'm gutted because it feels like the progress she's made is basically for nothing and she'll have to start over again in 10 days!

Anyway, I don't know how this typically works! They're meant to send an email out this morning explaining, but do you pay for nursery still if they've shut for isolation? Just so I know what to expect. Thanks!

Yep, sorry. They’re paying the staff (and the rent, insurance, almost everyone else) so you pay the fees.

She won’t have forgotten nursery when it reopens, so the settling back in should be far easier!

Sorry it’s crappy timing though.

Our nursery doesn't charge for days children are at home self-isolating. They've been fab.

@Zarene I sort of thought that would be the case, wishful thinking 😅 I hope you're right and she picks back up where she left off!

Ours has been closed for the last week due to isolating and they are crediting the Funds to the next invoice

It depends on the contract - my twins childminder contract states if they can't provide the service because the staff are self isolating or government mandated closures then I have to pay 50%. If we can't use the service due to us having to isolate then we pay 100%

Which I think is pretty fair

The CMA said last year that any charges had to be fair. If you think it is unfair to pay you are able to raise it with them. As a childminder, if I’m closed/isolating then no fees, if You are ill/isolating and I’m open, then full fees. I feel that is fair.

Slightly older children (18mth ish) but I found last year, that all my little ones walked straight back Like they’d never missed a beat after 10 weeks off In lockdown. I was amazed they hadn’t forgotten what went on tbh.

Legally, they cannot charge if they're not able to provide the service you're paying for.
