Is it weird to buy a gift for the nursery?

Hi, my daughter will be leaving pre school/nursery and starting school this year. She has a favourite teacher (it's actually someone who was in the 2 year old side with her but she still sees her and talks about her all the time) so we'll get a little present for her, but is it weird to buy something for the nursery? Was thinking some picture books, maybe some colouring pens/stickers etc, wasn't going to spend loads, about £20
I've had 2 children at this nursery and they've been great and I'm a bit sad about my youngest leaving there to go to school so I don't know if I'm being weird because of that or if I'm over thinking and it's fine! Would that be alright?

My DD attends a school Nursery and I've asked the teachers if there is anything they would like rather than a teacher gift, they've said a new story book for the reading corner is always a good idea so I don't think it's weird no

I wouldn't - spend the money on the staff who've made the place what it is.

Ha - there you go - two opposite answers at the same time. Ultimately do whatever feels right to you.

We left a copy of dd's favourite book at her old nursery, I like to think it's still being enjoyed

That's a lovely idea!

Thanks all, I might do the book idea and send in some chocolates or something for the staff then Smile

I wouldn't. I've met some owners who are quite fussy about resources and wouldn't like this. Lovely idea though!
A gift for her teacher/key-worker is the way to go.

Gift for the key worker and then one for the staff in general, fancy treats or something like that. It’s lovely to show your appreciation, but it’s the staff that make it like that though not necessarily the resources so give them something to enjoy instead

Imgettingcheesefries · 06/07/2021 14:28

Yeah good point, I'll do gifts for teachers instead. Glad I asked now! Thank you Smile

We left copies of DDs two favourite books at her nursery, as well as teacher gifts. Probably wouldn't have at a private nursery as they are a business but it was a local authority nursery in a childrens' centre and they relied fairly heavily on donated stuff on the whole.

My DC nursery say no gifts for the teachers but a book for the book corner is always appreciated! I think it's a lovely idea as I'm sure the teachers get fed up of reading the same books all the time too!

bugaboo218 · 06/07/2021 21:33

I would not buy resources for the nursery like felt tip pens, books etc.

It is a lovely idea, but many (chain) nurseries will only buy things like felt tip pens or books etc from an approved list of suppliers because of the potential risk to the children.

Buy her key person something special if you want to and a tub of chocs for the other staff.

I work in a nursery and I think this is a lovely idea.
Put a little message in such as “to nursery, lots of love DC 2021” I can guarantee that your family will be remembered for years after!

Thirstquenching · 06/07/2021 21:42

I work in a nursery things like books or story cds are great gifts but as someone else has mentioned we get things like pens from an approved supplier so maybe not a good idea to hand them in
