Taking 3 yo out of Nursery for one month

Hi,

Is it okay to take a 3 yo out of nursery a month before summer holidays? My stepkids were supposed to stay with me in London after a short stint in France with their grandpa. I recently learned according to French rules they're not allowed to come to the UK, but since I'm vaccinated I can go over there.

Since they normally live outside of Europe, it's my only chance to see them. And their mother thinking their kids were in good hands, is off away somewhere in their home country.

I want to go over to France, rent an airbnb or find some relatives' empty home so the stepkids are not stranded with grandparents who can't manage them more than a week. Plus I can work from home anywhere.

Only issues is my kid's nursery. I get the 30 hours free childcare and it's a state nursery (plus I signed up for their after school club). Their rules say they expect kids to attend every day.

Has anyone tried to to take nursery aged kids out for that long. Can I expect them to kick her out and not let her return next semester? Am I liable to pay the full amount for the month? Does that include after school club and sundries?

I'm a bit nervous asking them and just want to know what reaction to expect.

Well of course you'll have to pay, isn't that what you signed?

seepingweeping · 20/06/2021 19:53

You pay for the space if you're using it or not.

nutellamagnet · 20/06/2021 20:02

Yes you'll be paying for her place for the month.

Are you sure you're allowed into France? A couple of weeks ago they were turning away British people as our numbers are rising.

scrivette · 20/06/2021 20:03

You will have to continue to pay but I am sure that they won't mind your DC being there for a month as people take holidays.

PotteringAlong · 20/06/2021 20:04

Yes you can take her out and yes you will have to pay.

Teacher here in a state nursery, I have had children go away for 4 weeks back to thier home country and we wouldn't remove thier school place as nursery is non compulsory so schools cant not agree holidays really until 5. In terms of the childcare element you probably have two choices - pay the amount or take them out completely but that would risk getting the space back when you return, also most private nurseries/funded state would require a paid notice period so you'll probably find youd need to pay anyway.

Ask if they do holidays , at my sons nursery you were allowed 4 weeks holiday.

OddBoots · 20/06/2021 20:17

Unless you are willing to pay the fees it may be down to the local authority rather than the nursery themselves as the nursery may have to sign a contract to say they can only claim the finding when the child attends and there will be a clause about how long a child can be off before they have to refund the funding and the nursery is unlikely to be able to afford to do that unless you pay or they fill that space with another child.

Are you sure you're allowed into France?

I think they've said if you test and if you have had both vaccines.

Juicyapple44 · 21/06/2021 20:20

In my local area the nursery will not be allowed to claim the funding for any of the hours for the whole month your child won’t be attending so you will be liable for whole fees for the whole duration .
