Nursery wanting NI and DOB?

Bit of a weird one, randomly my DC's nursery has messaged me asking for my National Insurance number and date of birth so they can check if DC's (3+) are eligible for funding?

I already checked when we registered at the nursery and we don't get anything other than the standard 15 hours for 3+ as I'm a SAHP and DH works FT, but we don't claim UC or any other benefits due to savings. They asked me for a funding code when we registered and I explained we're not eligible for funding and now they're randomly asking for my NI and DOB.

Am I being unreasonable to not give them my info after I've explained my situation to them twice? I'm not sure if they think I'm wrong but I don't see why I need to give over personal info so they can double check.

Your 15 hours needs a funding code.

You have to apply for this through your local authority.

You should have done it yourself. The nursery are doing you a favour.

I believe you still need to give these details for the 15hours free? With our nursery the information all gets sent off to the council the nursery don't deal with the forms directly as the 'funding' is issued from the council.

The 15 hours doesn’t need a code - those two pieces of information are needed to check eligibility for the early years pupil premium or to verify the code for the 30 hours. You don’t need to provide your DOB or NI to claim the 15 universal hours.

You still need a code. You sound like a pain in the arse.

WotgunShedding · 08/06/2021 20:37

You don’t need a code for the 15 hours. You do need to fill in a funding form but that doesn’t involve a code nor do you need to provide your DOB or NI if you don’t want to.

Thanks for these responses. DC have been in the nursery for months so I'm not sure it's a 'code' issue, apologies if my initial post sounded that way. I did fill out a funding form for our LA but the code part was explicitly for the 30 funded hours, not the 15.

From the sound of these responses, I'm guessing they're more just trying to check for the early years pupil premium which someone mentioned up the thread. We're also not eligible for that, so although I admit I may be a bit of a pain in the arse, in a way I'm saving them the trouble of having to check?

I have to say I found it a bit invasive which is why I was hesitant to give them my info.

It’s for the early years pupil premium and it’s not all down to finances
There are other criteria which would make children eligible

This. They should ask for your consent to check for 30 hours eligibility and early years pupil premium so if you don't want them to check for it, tell them. They don't need your NI and DOB to process a standard 15 hour claim.

I ask for this info as standard at my setting though, along with consent to check, but it wouldn't be a problem a problem if you didn't want to give it.

I'm sure they won't do anything sinister with it though....

You are going to struggle your way through if you find being asked for 2 basic pieces of information'invasive' Confused

@User135792468ser
I input data for funding all the time you do not need a code for 15 hours universal funding you only need it for the extended 15 hours or 2 year funding. A family does not have to give it, they do not have to give consent to check for entitlement and they should be given a privacy notice.

Pinkpepper79 · 09/06/2021 17:08

They need it for funding. If they don't have it within a certain time frame then you will be billed the full amount. The funding forms do need to be repeated every so often

jannier · 09/06/2021 17:49

@Pinkpepper79......from the people who do the inputting....no they don't unless your 30 hours or 2 year funding the op isn't as has already been said a few times.
